Cauliflower Ear Question.

I did some bjj for a few months and never had signs of cauliflower ear.

One time my friend (who is a pro Muay Thai fighter) sucker punched me in the ear while he was drunk and the next day my ear hardened near the tip. Damn did that hurt lol.

I noticed that during the Lawler vs Dos Anjos fight that
RDA had the worst looking cauliflower ear I ever seen
so what i'm trying to figure out is do all fighters develop
it or some are lucky enough not to develop it and go there
whole careers with ears intact.
In most cases, it's a wrestling thing or someone who's been boxed up upside his head over a lengthy career

Your friend seems to have a third nipple.

If he heard me say that though...

He's a great guy and would probably laugh and bust yo balls back. IDK if he has a third nipple or not......I've never inspected that close lol. As far as this thread, like I said he is a super nice guy and does a lot locally for anti-bullying. This started because some keyboard warrior used an offensive term of retard and I think it's funny because that poster would never have the spine to say that to another mans face. Let alone a professional fighter......nice GIF though.

I always train with head gear. I don't give a fuck what others think. I'm not a professional fighter, just a hobby, so no need to mess my ears up. I have had a few instances of having to drain my ear after a competition. I did everything to minimize long term damage. Once that shit hardens up it is a pia to deal with when sleeping. It is like having a rock between your head and the pillow.

I’ve been training since 2012 and my ears barely look any different. My coach has virgin ears as well and he’s been training for way longer then I have. Some people just get it way easier.

it has to do with friction against your ear.
Blood & pus fill your ear, and if you don't drain, it hardens and stays.
Most who train do not bother to drain it (as it will come back).
Plus, it was viewed as bad before, but now (with the dissemination of MMA), people see it with more pride.

If you are not a hard passer or a grinder you generally won't get it.

For the most part passive players doesn't have them.

I have cauliflower ear on one side which means I am a better fighter than someone without

Its a sign of pride for BJJ and wrestlers.

And Rugby players. Not really a source of pride for them, but a lot of it is down to not being bothered draining their ears.

I read that they become calcified and are like rocks if they're not drained and plastic surgery is needed to fix them up.

I have it on both ears, more noticeable on my right and got it from forgetting headgear at freestyle wrestling tourneys where they aren’t required. I normally used headgear in practice as much as I could and wrecked my ears the few times I didn’t use headgear.

You have to drain your ears with needles anytime they take damage or else they'll calcify/cauliflower. The guys that don't stay on top of that or protect their ears, it's going to happen. Most wrestlers see it as a sign of toughness and wear them like badges though.

He's actually very anti-bully and speaks at a lot of schools in the area against it!

I wouldn't say shit to him he looks like a tough SOB

HOWEVER the irony has to be stated that he actually look semi retarded in the first picture you linked and the fact that he goes around to schools talking about anti-bullying while having "the bully" as a nickname adds on to the whole retarded thing

I'm sure he's an amazing person and tougher than most here but the irony was just too much

Oh I see the irony.....except the "looking retarded" thing. I have a niece and nephew with downs and maybe it just hits a sore spot with me. As far as his name of The Bully......it's two parts. 1) that he is anti-bullying and therefore "bullies the bully" and 2) how he fights. He's very aggressive and has some great G&P so he's a "bully" in the cage.

Edit; I wonder how one gets their pic changed on sherdog? The one I used is the one that's his profile on here.
