Cauliflower Ear Question.

Hard ears are more likely to turn into cauliflower.

And it's not caused only by grappling, also strikes of all types.
thanks for correcting me, I really didn't remember what type of ears do I have... :-D but IMO it is really mostly due to grappling, you can see rugby players, wrestlers and BJJ guys having cauliflower ears, while they don't use striking at all. on the other hand you have boxers and kickboxers with no cauliflower ears at all.

His name is Shaun "The Bully" Asher. Pretty sure he has a fighter profile on Sherdog......I can connect you if you'd like, so you can call him a retard to his face but I doubt you could to his face.

<GSPWoah>

Some boxers get it as well. But it seems to be more near the inner part of the ear than the floppy ass part up top for them.

maybe, but a lot of MMA guys are proud of their cauliflower ear.
True. I guess it depends on what you value. I don't mind having light scar tissue on the face but would get surgery if I ever had cauliflower ear. go figure

he does look like one

I know some people get them drained, but give up after a while

It's a sign of bad wrestling or getting raped on the mat lol. Cauliflower ear isn't cool.
Sorry but you can't be more innacurate with this statement. I seriously think you rather have some strange sense of humour.

Yes, but I think strikes with small gloves and elbows in MMA make a big difference: MUCH more external damage. Just look at how fucked up MMA-fighters faces are after fights compared to kickboxers and boxers.

I noticed that during the Lawler vs Dos Anjos fight that
RDA had the worst looking cauliflower ear I ever seen
so what i'm trying to figure out is do all fighters develop
it or some are lucky enough not to develop it and go there
whole careers with ears intact.
All it takes is one hard strike to the ear or to have your ear rubbed really hard against someone's body while grappling. I got mine shooting for a takedown. The dude sprawled and my ear rubbed really hard on either his arm or his body while we were both scrambling. I immediately felt numbness and like my ear was burning.

It fills up with blood. If you don't drain it with a syringe then the blood will harden up and your ear will stay looking like that. Or you can try to drain it like I did. My ear still looks a little funny but at least I drained the big bulge out of it. Now I usually wear headgear when grappling but it can still happen when i am boxing or doing MMA sparring without the headgear

some guys told me it depends on the type of your ears. you can have hard ears or soft ears. those hard ears are much less likely to turn into cauliflower than those soft ears... or vice versa? and where the hell was I?

It's the opposite. I have really hard ears, they get bruised easily while rolling. If I don't take care of it it gets bad.

true, thanks for correcting me.

Not really. I got mine shooting for a takedown. The guy defended and my ear rubbed really hard on his body or maybe it was his arm during the takedown attempt.

All I know is it took a millisecond to go from having a perfect ear to having an ear bulging with blood.
