According to the article, the Diocese is legally within their rights to do this. But I have to think they are pocketing less than the example will ultimately cost them from people who see them as money grubbing whores.

The Catholic Church does a lot of charitable things most people would support, but when you're getting ready to open your wallet you have to think of crap like this.

A few scouts decided to stay in the Diocese's new group, if they had kept a portion of the money equivalent to those staying I'd say they were being fair.

I'm actually in the same boat as you... I've always disliked it and internally questioned the intelligence of anyone that chooses to follow Religion... But I haven't always been so intolerant of it as I am now.

But at the end of the day, I realized just how ridiculous, intolerant, false, hate-filled and really... dangerous it actually is. I realized that there needs to be an organized push back against it and I'm happy to be a part of it. I would never try to deny anyone the right to their religious belief... ever. But if people want to be public about their support of such a horrible thing, I have no problem taking them to task for it. It's a two way street. In fact, I believe it should be openly mocked and derided wherever found.

But you know what? I could never do more damage to the Religious Right than someone like Warrior Poet could... They're their own worst enemy. I mean, look at that post...
