Cat Lovers Get In Here

Put my cat down three weeks ago today.. was the worst thing I have ever done . still hurts bad.

Yea your cat is looking for her brother .. or he came back to visit her . I swear I saw or heard my cat a few times the first few days after he left this earth…I still do sometimes.. they do come back to check on everyone and wouldn’t be surprised if your other cat sees him as well.

I've had to put a few cats and dogs down. Grief is hard but you'll have nothing but good memories in a year or so. Not sure what yr beliefs are but many Eastern Orthodox Christians believe cats will be redeemed in the age to come. All cats go to heaven and all that jazz. Check out The Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas of the Cats in Cyprus. Pretty good for the feels when yr down about a lost kitty.

Thanks brother.

I’ll watch this video as soon as I’m somewhere I can listen to audio.

It always amuses me how cats have been revered by other civilizations dating back to prehistory. I suppose our obsession with cat videos on social media is more or less the same thing. Cheers.

Yea man I swear she’s looking at something. I still feel his presence. Sorry for your loss brother.

Cats and Cat lovers ........ scourge of the earth. If its not a dog its not a pet.

That video is just a song about death not being the end. A little inspiration if you will. But yeah there's tons of videos of the cat monastery on youtube worth a look.

Interesting, never thought about the Egypt to cat videos pipeline but that's a good thread and worth further inquiry.

Thanks for sharing. The vet told us that cats don’t mourn and they don’t have a long term memory, but I swear he’s wrong. There’s no way you can have two cats attached like that and not notice when the other one is gone.

That’s bs.. they tell you that to let you down easy. She is definitely looking for her brother. It will pass with time but right now she’s pretty confused.

We had to put one of ours down recently and we had it done at home. When she was put down we let the other cats into the room after. They sniffed her and sat with her for a minute. They understand more than most people realize. Our boy was upset as she was his little tag along. That said it allowed them closure in a way. The boy still moped around for a bit for a few weeks but was ok after a while.

Sucks to go thru but it’s part of nature -we all go at some point. She was only 5 years old and we did everything we could to save her but in the end her kidneys just stopped working and there was nothing that could be done. We made the decision when she still felt relatively good but had maybe a few weeks to live at best.

Best piece of mind I was given is that animals aren’t afraid to die. They kind of live in the moment and don’t view it like we do.

Also I’ll add that ‘meowing’ isn’t just reserved for humans. This observation imo is made off of outdoor cats who keep quiet for survival reasons. Indoor cats definitely have calls for one another. Your kitty is most likely wondering the house calling out for him. It’s sad, but again she’ll get past it eventually. Just give her some support and hang out with her.

Very sorry for your loss. My 16 year old cat is starting to have irreversible health issues and I'm dreading what's coming.

16 is a good run brother. Doesn’t make it any easier. I know you’ll make the right decision when the time comes. We have an obligation to not let them suffer. At least, that’s how I see it. Cheers to you and yours.

Thanks man. We’re paying extra attention to her and hovering as best as we can. Cheers.

My wife and I had to put our sweet baby boy down on Thursday 5/15/25.

Sir Oswald Pawsborne The Prince of Darkness (aka Ozzy).

He was just 22 months old. He succumbed to severe anemia. His body stopped producing red blood cells. We tried a blood transfusion, steroids, and antibiotics. Alas, we couldn’t reverse his condition.

We adopted him and his sister (Starlene, The Twilight Princess/ AKA “Star”), together. They were inseperable and routinely groomed eachother, played, and slept together.

I’m not sure if I’m projecting my grief onto her, but I swear, Star is bouncing around from window to window, vocalizing louder than I’ve ever heard. I can’t help but feel that she’s looking for her brother. This absolutely crushes me.

In the pictures:

Ozzy is the one with the blue collar. We stopped collaring him eventually because Star always found a way to slip her collar off, and we wanted to be consistent. Star is much smaller and her eyes are more yellow. Ozzy’s eyes leaned green.

The last photo was taken by my daughter at the clinic as we said good bye.

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to your little treasure.

Our kitties pretty much chose us from the shelter, I had stray cats as a child but I've never known the love with Gunner and Rocket.

Thanks for trolling in my thread. I’d say “a new low”, but it’s sherdog. Seriously, from the depths of my soul, fuck off. If you were in front of me, I’d smash your face for a comment like that. You’re a real piece of shit and a despicable coward.
TBH - I didn't read your OP post . This was a rare instance when that was required here. Doesn't change my thoughts on cats but I definitley wouldn't of responded like that or at all. So appologies for being a total douche instead of just a fraction of douche.

My heart goes out to you, TS. I had an incredible bond with my last cat, she was really special. The decision to finally say goodbye was one of the hardest I’ve very made, and the day she passed was one of the worst, most painful days of my life. Probably second only to the day my dad passed.

Cats definitely have long term memory, and they mourn. I agree with what you and @Fuzzybabyducks said, I felt her presence for a long time afterward. Sometimes while laying in bed at night I’d hear the sounds and feel the weight of her jumping up on the bed like she used to. Sometimes I still swear I see her in the house out of the corner of my eye.
