Career derailment fights

Penn's ceiling was limitless, but he thought he was beyond everyone.
He was, but that gap closed quickly, and he refused to evolve.

That's the saddest point of anyone's career for me to be honest.

Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.

Unfortunately for him, he ran into a bunch of people that had talent AND worked way harder than him.

I'll say it. Joanna vs Rose

Joanna should have called in sick and pulled out like Amanda did vs Shev.

Didn't, seemingly for ego, the feeling like she owed something to the company and/or the GSP card payday or all of those things, and lost out on legacy, Hollywood deals and millions of dollars.

A lot of the rounds she later dropped vs Rose and Weili would have gone her way had she been the belt holder. That's just how boxing judges are. Fan perception of her would be very different today.

In some case IMO the ranking system has helped prolong careers.

Overeem is an example there as it allowed him to become the ultimate gatekeeper at HW, always winning when fighting down in competition level.

It doesn't work for everyone quite as well. Woodley had to cut through the cream of 170 in his last four fights (Usman, Burns, Covington and Luque) so couldn't get a rebuild established.

Perfectly stated sir.
That's when it went off the rails for him.
