Cardio for Standup Fighting

cardio for standup fighting is not something any man can achieve :icon_twis

YES plyo for endurance

striking is aerobic and anaerobic

on the subject of running: you can simulate jogging by jumproping like you're jogging.. you can do it forward and turn around and do it in the other direction. it takes a lot of coordination but i can jump rope forward with a jogging in place motion and turn around with the rope still going and jump rope back with the rope going backwards.

Last year when I pitched for baseball you had to train how you play. Throwing a baseball itself is anaerobic, but you pitch 7 innings that becomes aerobic. The same can be translated into fighting. Throwing a punch is anaerobic, but going 4 or 5 rounds is definitley aerobic.

So train how you fight. I have anotehr fight coming up soon, and today I went a lil happy go-jacky wiht cardio but it felt good. For cardio in the mornign I did 5 rounds of 4 minutes on the treadmill. With this I'd set it a decent incline and a steady pace run for 3 minutes straight, then the last minute go BALLS deep and crank that bitch as fast as it can go. Once the time hits 4 minutes. Stop take a breather like you would in a fight...wait 30 seconds and repeated that 3 more times.

Did a punching drill with 2 lbs weights where you punch for one minute straight, the next minute you do an exercise taht targets your delts (ex. Military press, bent over flys, etc.) do that 10 minutes alternating.

then i went to class.

got out of class did the treadmill thing this time doing 4 rounds of 5 minutes and the last minute again going balls out. Then, i love this drill...I take two green bands. Tie them together, then one end i tie it to teh power rack, and then i throw on a weightlifting belt and loop the other end into the weightlifting belt. Then i do sprawls, wiht the green band resisting. I sprawled for 5 mintues straight...for 3 rounds.

You can also use them for shots too, but i decided not today cause my knee is all burned up because the floors are kinda ruff at that gym.

Then i topped it off with 20 minutes of jump roping. But just to throw some ideas out there, timed lifts are nice too. Squat with a low weigth for 5 minutes, clean and jerks (lgiht weight) for 5 minutes.

I just try to take something thats anaerobic, and turn it into being aerobic by doing it for long amounts of times...kinda like fighting.

Just some thoughts. Also i believe before you can get your anaerobic up you should have a good aerobic conditioning. Before i started doing this i'd just do 3 mile jogs and what not till i felt it was time to move into sprint work/anaerobic crap.

doing an anaerobic drill for a long time doesnt make it aerobic.
