Car of your choice

+1

Toyotas are reliable AF. My dad (RIP) made me a believer more than 20 years ago when he steered me toward a 4Runner and I've been driving Toyotas ever since and currently have a Lexus.

My dad was a truck guy and went through various makes until the 90's when he settled on Tacos and Tundras. He had a 2003 Tundra that he put 300K miles on and even after he got a 2011 Tundra, the new one mostly sat in the driveway because he preferred the old one and put another 100K miles on it before it got relegated to beater duty. Right before he passed in 2020, he had just bought a used 2003 Tundra and spent $10K getting it overhauled so he could daily drive it.
When I got married in 2003, I had a 2002 Tacoma extended cab. When our son was born I was only able to either drive with him or my wife because the car seat wouldn't fit on the half-seat side facing fold-downs in the back. (Technically she could ride in the little jump seat behind me, but that would have been tight). I still miss that truck. If it had been a double-cab, I have no doubt my son would have driven it in HS. Anyway, I ended up trading it in for a Sienna that served us well.

Looking for a new ride, in late 2026/early 27.
Want a Defender 130, but can't afford.
493 hp & handles well, responsively for bigger ride.

Is between Defender 110 vs Q8.

I’m leaning towards the 110, but have time to think.

Will probably be my next car actually

Man I tried to convince my dad to get one of those instead of the i8 the dealership gave him for a weekend, but he's too old and nerdy to care about the v8 these days. Ended up going the Tesla instead which is still fun to borrow but nothing like a v8.

Fully loaded TRX
702hp supercharged HEMI V8

Bloke here has one kitted out, makes even the regular TRX look average.

For me it'd have to be the 90s NSX, couldn't tell you why, pure emotion. Haven't seen one on the road for years.

Q8 with black optics looks hard as fuck.

I'm just over 50 and driven a car twice and never wanted a licence. It's probably too late for me but if I have a mid life crisis (soon) I'd probably learn to drive if I bought a classic Porsche 911, or an old Ford Falcon, xy or xb. But so many old beautiful cars around.

Never too late, give it a go.

If you get a 911 it will change you, lol. I bought my first when I was 27 and I'm 42 now. I've made an deal with myself to have one until the day I die.

Regarding the BMW, what did you prefer exactly?

i8 is electric
M4 has a twin turbo inline 6

Neither of them have a V8

Ahh, I thought it was an M8. M4 would be nice I've just never been a turbo guy.

Really just the engine. I'm a big exhaust guy and the i8 sounded awful to me. I love hearing something with oomph and the i8 was like a wet fart. For the price point I felt like the interior could have been better. It didn't give the wow factor I guess I was expecting.

Ok got it. Yea M8 has a similar shape but the dead giveaway is the grill

Anyways a few things:
M8 has a turbo V8.
It is bigger and doesn't handle quite like an M4. Still very competent, but it's more of a grand tourer than a track ready coupe.
BMW is known for their inline 6s and they are nearly bulletproof engines. V8s not so much

Anyways I dunno if I'll ever take that plunge. I have a M340i now that has a lot of life left.

I'd bribe Toyota to get off their asses and finally make an electric Camry.

I loved this in Colin Farrell's show Sugar so much my other half bought me a Hot Wheels little model of it.

My Dad raced one of those in the 1970's at Laguna Seca and Sears Point. My job was picking rocks out of tires in the hot NorCal Summer pits.

I'm a Ford guy.

I was driving a Maserati Gran Turismo for a while. It got a lot of attention.
