Movies CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD (Dragonlord's Review)

John Walker (in the comics at least) had a very different power and ability set than Steve. So did the three other guys that wore the shield between the end of WW2 and whe Steve thawed out.
I loved the John Walker arc in the 80s. For those of you not aware of Walker's history, he started as Super Patriot, an antagonistic douchebag that publicly criticized Cap and his outdated ideals. When Steve resigned as Cap, Walker was chosen by the government as the new Cap. I love how Walker was having a hard time trying to master the shield throwing. They had to bring in Taskmaster (has the ability to duplicate a person's physical movements just by watching them) to teach Walker how to use the shield. As Walker continued training to be Cap, he gradually learned to respect what Steve Rogers accomplished and how he carried himself.

i haven't seen this yet but i was expecting Wakanda body suit enhancements along with the wings to go with the Shield to make up for the gap of not having Super serum, like Cap and thus not being credibly able to be put in anywhere near the same danger levels, without such. Is that not the case?
You would be correct. The wings have been upgraded by the Wakandans and now has the same ability as Black Panther's suit where it can absorb a great deal of kinetic energy and can redistribute it in a powerful burst. This is not a spoiler btw as Sam is already sporting this from his first scene.

Looking forward to watching this but even from the previews, I don't really like the visuals of how fast Falcon/CA's wings come out and retract instantly. Guess his helmet does it now too, ugh. I have the same gripe with Star-Lord's helmet for what it's worth and another of the other gadgetry in the MCU that does this.

Like Anthony Mackie and hope this movie does well, as I liked Falcon & Winter Soldier, but see the boo birds already coming out. Don't like that people are saying it's more of a Hulk sequel than anything, but I'mma watch it anyways.

Bad critic scores but good audience scores. Cautiously optimistic as that is usually a good indicator of quality these days.

I really like Mackie as Falcon and he was pretty good in Twisted Metal. The series he and Bucky had was terrible though, as much of Marvel has been since Endgame. I had little desire to see him in the role.

He's just not Captain America, it's ridiculous. They should have went with Bucky. I doubt that would make a difference writing/story wise for this film, but at least it would be a logical choice.

I don't see Bucky as being a believable choice right now in the MCU. I think we would have needed to see more of him alongside Steve Rogers for that to work, or more of him in a solo movie or something--maybe 'finding himself' in Wakanda when he was recovering after Civil War.
There's just too much of his onscreen time so far being a 'bad' guy for him to come into the role of the symbol that Captain America is.

But yeah, for either way to work it needed better writing and story, which is why Falcon doesn't work. Whether it was Bucky or Falcon, there wasn't really a natural progression for either character to become the new Cap other than Steve saying "You're my friend, and I"m old as shit now, so you take over"

If that's the case, they don't explain it. And I don't remember exactly what they said about them in the Falcon/Winter Soldier TV show.

I honestly still would prefer he didn't have an amped up suit. Part of the point of the character is that he is a normal human with no powers. It defeats the whole point if he can just put on a suit to rival the power of a real super human.
There's just some villains he has no business in the ring with, like a Hulk.

Also I have a genuine question, why does there need to be a Captain America? I feel like Steve was just Cap, it wasn't a position he was filling.

That's how it is in the comics. Steve is the first, but the shield and the name becomes a symbol. They have this dynamic/debate between Steve, Sam, Bucky, and US Agent about what it means to carry the shield.
They also represent a certain type of hero..usually the boyscout version that will try to talk things out and not kill.

Well tbh i often feel that way but then pull myself back because then i would have to think none of the avengers beside Hulk would have any business fighting beside Thor and so many more such match ups, including ones involving Cap.

Marvel created this issue by giving Falcon the shield because either they give him serum or tech or they leave him fighting him fighting absolute bottom tier baddies, while carrying the Captain America moniker and just not living up to the name at all. So in my view it was give him tech or give the shield to Bucky, with a redemption arc story.
