Law Capitol Rioter Megathread

Jan. 6th was months ago, and wasn't even the biggest story that month. Much more relevant things have happened since then and there's bigger issues to solve. The same people who want to blow it up as much as possible, are the same people who stayed silent throughout all of the murder and destruction last year. That's why nobody takes this pearl clutching seriously.
Like the secret bamboo ballots flown in from Asia?

First US Capitol rioter convicted of a felony gets 8 months in prison after DOJ says stiffer sentence could stop future attacks

A man who pleaded guilty to breaching the Senate chamber during the US Capitol insurrection was sentenced Monday to eight months in prison in a closely watched case that could influence how hundreds of other rioters charged with the same felony are punished.

Paul Hodgkins, a 38-year-old Floridian, is now the first Capitol rioter convicted of a felony to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty last month to obstructing congressional proceedings -- specifically, the counting of the electoral votes, which he helped delay on January 6. He spent about 15 minutes inside the Senate chamber, wearing a Donald Trump shirt and carrying a Trump flag.

8 months seems fair to me. What do you guys think?

Note: Dry runs are stupid

Based on trumps legal team and Trumps ineffective general rhetoric, I would not have been anywhere near that event.

I also would not have burned out police stations, and tried to interrupt other proceedings like leftists did.

My ex disrupted the electoral college in Michigan in 2016, where they all stormed the Michigan capital and screamed for a few hours. No arrests.

REMEMBER THAT???

Hey guess what!! Google has erased the news stories about the screaming leftists at the Michigan capital, screaming to stop the electoral college.

Amazing. My ex was there and showed me a tv piece on it because she was on camera screaming. Google erased it. I think it happened in multiple states.

Big strong men straight out of central casting hugging and kissing with tears in their eyes

Seems harsh for his actual actions...but I agree that there needs to be some tangible consequence beyond some bullshit probation...and it hopefully provides some deterrent value to prevent this type of behaviour in the future.

Regardless, it sure sends quite a message to the others who have been arrested, especially if they fail to cooperate. No doubt many will now be *begging* for plea deals (if they were not already).

They should just make the Capitol Rioters clean up after the next Democratic / Leftist March in D.C.

That will deter anyone. The Left are fucking slobs.

The prison sentence after they looked the other way when Leftists did it is absurd and seems tyrannical.

I support jail sentences for people that committed crimes whilst at the Capitol building. Smashing windows, Assaulting Police etc. If all he did was walk in behind others then that sentence is too high. As mentioned, obstructing congressional proceedings is a regular form of protest for people and as far as I know nobody has received a similar punishment.

https://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/06/politics/electoral-college-vote-count-objections/index.html End of this article mentions protesters. I will say this was well done by Biden, who I have a low opinion of. Definitely see how he was much more with it previously, this version might have done well as president.

Google is giving me nothing besides Jan 6. Whilst it definitely is the most extreme, I would like to actually see a mix of different times google...

Prison costs tax dollars. Dude's a non-violent offender. Fines and community service seem more appropriate.

I think they need to dissuade these people from doing it again. This needs to be a one time incident that never gets repeated.

Looks like Biden takes law and order a lot more seriously than Trump. Trump would have just whined on twitter about it.

Is ts talking about the last that got arrested in Georgia for knocking on the governors door non stop?

Does that apply to all crime?

Attacking the Capitol is a bit more serious than regular street crime. It's a direct attack on democracy. If these people had been Marxists you'd want to throw the book at them.
