nope, I can't see it. I mean, if Canelo wins a UD people will say he can't KO a JMW and if he scores a violent KO they will say he cherry picked again. He isn't fighting a natural 168 lb fighter, let alone David Benavidez, so aside from his die-hard fan base this doesn't do anything for his legacy.

The comparison with Pacquiao isn't valid here because Pacquiao did not actually jump weight-classes. He moved through the weight classes systematically destroying the champions. I can't remember if he did 135 but he had many legit wins at 147 and was already past his best when Mayweather fought him. That's why Floyd doesn't get as much props, because he let the fight marinate a good 6 years past its best by date.

you're speaking from the perspective of a 1% diehard fan.

but to the rest of the 99% of the world, they won't care about the details, like whether pac gradually worked his way up.

canelo took this fight for the money & fame. it's the 2 most obvious reasons that motivates a fighter.

I think you're mixing up legacy with fame. In terms of legacy, Pacquaio was, in the eyes of most boxing experts, the consensus #1 WW in the world besides Mayweather for many, many years. He wasn't a junior lightweight monarch that won a fight at LW and then jumped up 2 divisions. If Boots were to beat Crawford at 147--MASSIVE credit legacy. Canelo, or any SMW, beating Crawford at 168, not so much.

In terms of fame, Canelo can't really do more by fighting Crawford. If the general public (or the 99% as you call it) are apathetic to boxing accolades, they are at least sensitive to name recognition. Crawford is an opponent that only the "diehard" fans know and care about. Pacquiao was and is a global superstar. He transcended boxing. Canelo doesn't need any more fame. And if he wanted to get more fame, he wouldn't fight Crawford.

In terms of money, it's prizefighting and, of course, money is understandably the biggest motivator. But on that score, as I've said, Canelo could make as much or possibly more fighting Eubank Jr. and I'm sure he could pull Saudi money from Sheeraz. Both might carry less risk and certainly less damage to his legacy and the division.

Imagine if little Crawford unifies. That would be like GSP beating Bisping. You have a unified champ that is probably not going to defend and the picture is beyond muddled.

most boxing experts, pros and fans have it 55-45 canelo or even 50-50 even.
as i said, money & legacy.

Crawford is good with the orthodox stance, and great with the southpaw stance. Crawford only like to fight with the orthodox stance against orthodox, never against southpaw, and like to fight southpaw against orthodox or fellow southpaw.

And when Crawford gets hurt or in trouble in the orthodox stance, he quickly switch to southpaw. Ennis fights in all 4 match-up of stances, and is more versatile, he is certainly the best to prepare for Crawford.

It's gonna be a huge payday, I wonder how many PPV it will sell ?

I never see people point out that Canelo-Scull was at 6am in Saudi time.
That has to factor somewhat into how you perform.
 
It's great to have a fight in boxing between elite guys where I really have no clue who wins, it doesn't happen often enough.

Anyway I'll go Canelo by late KO, gonna say he ends up overpowering Crawford and getting on top later on. I say this with absolutely no confidence though hahah
 
Those who say "Canelo is too big for Crawford" are just repeating what they hear in the media. They are around the same size and when they stand face to face no one is noticeably bigger/thicker than the other. Both fighters walk around between 180-190 pounds and Crawford has the longer reach.

You guys make it seem Crawford is fighting Tyson Fury.

The real advantage Canelo has is not his own physical size but the fact that he has been fighting longer at that weightclass therefore used to fighting bigger guys.

But that's the name of the game. Crawford is taking a big risk in order to achieve a historic feat. But Canelo is taking a pretty big one himself. He is fighting a "smaller" guy who really isn't all that smaller and potentialy an all time great. He risks winning and having everyone blame it on the weight difference. If its a huge Amir Khan style KO, they will say it was too easy. If he wins a hard fought decision it'll mean Canelo couldn't stop an overpowered opponent. If he loses well... "he wasn't all that great to beging with"

The only way Canelo comes out of this like a champ is if he manages to outbox Crawford in spots, like he did against Jacobs. Show amazing head movement and defensive skills while coming forward. If he does all that and then still manages to stop Crawford then Canelo is coming out like an all new star and will only solidfy himself as the king of the sport.

But pretty much any other outcome and you'll see the haters flood the forums with criticism. So yeah, Canelo is taking a risk as well and getting paid handsomly for it. Crawford is taking a huge risk. One big upper from Canelo and Crawford gets KO'd. Those two undisputed divisions mean absolute shit.

I think what they mean is Canelos skeletal size jst seems bigger/denser plus he's just used to absorbing more impact. Bigger bones dont always guarantee the Ko tho
 
Only have seen episode 1 of the Countdown episode on Netflix so far, do they mention the Bivol fight in episode 2? Episode 1 ignored his existence and was acting like Floyd was the only boxer to ever beat Canelo lol.
