Social Canadian UHC - Woman waits 6 years for Knee Replacement - Get leg amputated Instead

Nobody read the article? She had an infection with her knee surgery. The issue isn't the healthcare system. It's the hospital's bed coordinator that messed up. They transferred her out of the hospital to have an examination in another place. They couldn't transfer her back because of the lack of a bed. She got another infection and the leg got worse.

Canada HC is great at big ticket items and emergencies e.g. have a heart attack or cancer, you will receive 'free' good treatments.

Anything else, its totally fucked. Need a family doc- fucked. Need any ortho- fucked. Need non-life threatening specialists- fucked.

And by 'free', I mean 1/3 of ALL tax dollars go to HC.

At least the US system if you have money you can pay for care.

You're asking me to read the whole article and not just the headline?

Dude... She had an infection and she had to wait 6 days with an open infected wound

But seriously... She waited 6 years for her surgery?

That is the hospital’s fault. They moved her so another surgeon could look at it. The coordinator did not reserve a bed for her so the person who could perform the surgery could close out the wound. This is malpractice. It isn’t a healthcare issue outside of the long wait time.

Ahh... So they couldn't fix one mistake? And why not finish the surgery where they started it?

Was there no hospital or surgeon anywhere who could have seen her?

Instead of let her leg rot for a week until they needed to cut it off?

Its such a Government response to just say fuck it and let her sit until the infection is so bad they couldn't fix it. Was there no one anywhere?

We need to stop doing that. We are too old to have TikTok brain rot.

It’s a hospital administrative issue. They messed up. The doctors at the new place don’t want to touch it because they didn’t operate on it in the first place. Please read the article or follow up. They explain the situation.

This type of bullshit happens in America too.

Also.... funny I posted this thread today

Meanwhile, Congress like... Obamacare is garbage.

lol... I did read the article. Are you fucking kidding? Are you insane?

There's no way in the US a patient would have been made to wait over a week to finish a surgical procedure due to lack of beds. This seems to be a uniquely Canada situation due to lack of facilities? And why is there a severe lack of facilities and extreme wait times.... Even making someone wait when their in a dire situation?

What? They couldn't have a life flight for her to a larger city with more capacity? Or put in an ambulance for a 8-12 hour drive? Who cares if it had been a 24 hour drive due to being too remote?

No.. The answer there was to just leave her to rot in a bed for a over a week? Doing nothing?

Sorry lady... We have to cut your leg off now

Furthermore, In the US, the Hospital and the Surgeon would be sued for the millions.

i live in winnipeg. concordia hospital sucks. wait times at every hospital in the city are insane. i had to wait over 20 hours to get my head stitched up last year. sitting there with head wrap 🤕 and a concussion.

This thread is nothing, your trying to discredit UHC, by claiming it’s not perfect, a typical nirvana fallacy, then you pretend that the American healthcare system doesn’t have even more problems.

No trying needed to discredit it

The articles in the OP do that all their own

lol...

It took me roughly 20 hours and being sent to two different hospitals to get a broken finger reset when I was in 8th grade.

Went to the ER, waited roughly 7-8 hours. Incompetent doctor could not reset my finger. Got sent to a hospital in the next state over that was about an 1 1/2 away from where I lived.

Hospitals in large cities seem to be alright here, but God help you if you live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.
