Nice try as Carney was the Governor of the bank of England in 2018 and had nothing to do with the carbon tax. Who cares if his party introduced the tax? He is not tied to every Liberal decision that has ever been made.

I only really think of Carney as a banker.

He was hired as Governor of the Bank of England by the Conservative party.

I'm skeptical about how "liberal" he actually is.

It's a smart move for them politically, but I doubt many will be moved. This guy is on record so many times hyping up the carbon tax, and there's no reason to believe they won't bring it back. He's practically the architect of the whole thing.

Kinda crazy how our elections are playing out similarly to the US. This is the Liberal's "Kamala" phase, where they try to convince people they're completely different now, because they have a new figurehead.

You should find the interview of him talking about how to implement a "shadow carbon tax". Which is essentially what this would become. Still charge companies and have them bury the cost so it's not evident to consumers.

Also, he still has to go through an election and this sells well.

Sure, but people want it, and it takes away a weapon from his opponent, even if ever so slightly. It would be FAR worse to double down, or leave the issue hanging.

Scraping the tax and gutting cabinet are smart conservative policies. Call a spade of spade even if they're Liberals the crux lays in if he's just pandering to Conservative voters until an election is over or is he actually going to run small government policies? Dangerous game because he needs to keep siphoning NDP voters and he's banking on them being too stupid to know what fiscally conservative policies are.

I dislike Liberals but Carney is looking like he's targeting increasing FDI and domestic productivity and that's going to take some fiscally conservative policy which is what we do desperately need.
