Can You Really Tell the Difference Among All the Different Quality Beers?

It just depends on what you want really. I love Lagers. Not budwiser but Heieken, pacifico, modelo especially. Many beer snobs would consider these "watered down" piss beers.

I cant stand IPA's or beers like guiness. It tastes like old coffee and chocolate. I used to like beers like racer 5 but they are too thick. If I want to sip on something, I will get a nice wine.

The douches that go to brewerys though are the worst. They read a few reddit articles and act like they know everything.

At the end of the day its just an opinion on what taste you like, no ones right or wrong really.

No offense but Heineken is the worst shit in the world. It's always skunked from the green bottles. Lagers are awesome and I drink a ton of them but that is seriously the worst beer on the planet.

I can generally articulate the differences between two similar beers pretty well.

What if i told you....the green bottle is part of the taste and if you buy 12 packs you dont have to worry about light exposure.

While you may not like it, many people do. I think guiness takes like old coffee and chocolate but some people love it here.

Of course one can tell the difference. I realized Michigan has the best beer in the mid west and possibly world after traveling around and trying beer from the surrounding states. It's easy to take good beer for granted in Michigan as it's ubiquitous. The beer other states claim as "good" doesn't compare to the second tier shit here...

Founders, Shorts, Bells, Dark Horse... To name a few...

I recently tried a couple of Trappist Monk Belgian beers that scored 100 out of 100 by a panel of "experts", and while they were good, I wouldn't say they were any better or even much different than many other fine beers I've tasted. There are so many brands of delicious beer on the market....can you really distinguish among many of them? Every time I try a new beer that people are raving about it's always, That's delicious, but been there there done that. Thoughts?

If you are comparing 3 Belgian Quads, there won't be a ton of difference. Subtle nuances but overall, they will be very similar. Take beers like Westvletern XII, Rochefort 10, and St. Bernardus Abt 12 and try them side by side and you won't see huge differences. All 3 are exceptional by the way. But if you compare Quads to a Tripel or a Dubble, then you'll see a massive difference.

Racer 5 is an IPA. It's a little sweet for my tastes but it's not a bad beer.

They sell Heineken in cans now too.

Founders and Bells make some great beer. Breakfast Stout and the Two Hearted Ale specifically.
I live in GA and we have some pretty amazing breweries. Terrapin, Sweetwater, Creature Comforts, Orpheus just to name a few.

I like IPAs, sours, and stouts. IPAs really are an acquired taste. If you're a lager type of guy, IPAs will make your nuts drop and put hair on your chest for the first time in your life.

No cuz I don't really drink I like yuengling and a few others I guess lol

I only started drinking craft beers about 5+ years ago, and it does take a bit to train your palate to discern the different beers, but you'll eventually get there.

last year, i was at a restaurant and ordered a beer i normally get at whole foods. The waitress brought it out and after i took a drink, i could immediately tell it was not the same beer. I told her and she said it was. She then checked with the bartender and later came back and said that the tap lines were messed up and it wasn't the beer i had ordered.

So yes, you can tell.

Stella, kronenbourg and carling .

I have that app drinki. gives you a free brewdog punk IPA most days but the stuff isnt that great hence why its the free drink on the app in most places. But its still free.

NEIPA all taste the same.

Naw. They all taste like OJ. the Haze craze should be on its way out soon thankfully. And next will be colored IPA i bet. Purple, blue, and glow in the dark IPAs will be big next yr. Sam Adams(which is a fine brewery) make a NEIPA that is as good as all the die hard ones that people rave about.

I am aware its an IPA, thats why I said its too thick. Just like all IPAs. I can never understand how someone could like the taste of Sierra Nevada x10.

I think this thread makes its point though, We all have different tastes and it seems like it varies alot. Lager, hefenwiesen and some ales are really the only types of beers I like anymore. Everything else has too much going on.

Trappist monk beers taste nothing like any other beers except other dubbel, tripels and quads. Bad example.

I had a couple big brands I used to stick to until I briefly got into wine and tried harder to recognize distinctions and flavours.

Now whenever I travel I try to find a place that serves a flight of locally brewed beers. It's been very satisfying so far.

Happened to me not that long ago. I ordered a Bells Two Hearted, an IPA. I got some kind of Shandy. Before I could even bring it up to her, she was bringing me the right beer.
