Can you be really shitty at shadow boxing and still be a good fighter?

Here.....I quickly filmed this last night, Ive never actually watched a vid of me shadowboxing before....I see ALOT I could improve on....anyways...flame away haha

Dude it's fine. Don't be so hard on yourself.

my biggest question is why does it look like the head shots are going 6-8 inches above your own head? are you specifically preparing for a tall ass giant?

That's apparently how sherdoggers do it... We are not supposed to ask why.

Besides that it's fine.

no, sherdoggers apparently don't upload anything beyond 3 second videos if you're the standard we're to be held to...

seriously tell us more stories about papa spacetime or delete your account. the only posts you're qualified to make here is to ask questions, and tell us tales of your legendary grandmaster shotokan father

Doesn't look bad, any reason why you're aiming a bit high? Are the people you compete against significant taller? Are you considering yourself "bad" because you're conspiring your SB to pure strikers of the same exp of training? Of so, MMA is a bit different where the grappling aspect changes things.

If anything I'd say you're a but too chill and flat after your combinations while not angling or moving off too much, but it's not too significant.

Cause the guys who hold pads for me are way shorter then me so i always feel like they are holding the pads too low for me and im exposing my chin when I throw strikes on the pads, so i overcompensate and make a point to punch high when im shadowboxing. Also I dont move my head off the centerline much so i try to protect my chin by throwing high when i shadowbox.

well at least you have a reason.

have you ever asked your pad holders to simply hold them higher?

Theres a lot of shit wrong. First off your throwing your punches up. And your not really using no headmovement. And those body shots are not effecting no one bro. Theres no hips behind them unless that was meant to be a head shot, but still no hips or much of a torque. Are you training in an actual fight gym? Or is that a rehabilitation center? Because that gym looks like a place for physical therapy.

Lol

It's obv that's not where he trains, that's like a condo/work gym; a place where there's some equipment for easy access to for him

Lol i thought when he said he was going over to train later today, he was going to a fight gym lol. But it does look like a gym in a condo building or work place. I didnt think of that.

Lol its my apartment buidling comon area gym

this will hopefully get your confidence up

I am assuming you’re intentional on is that the work between Briggs and Holyfield is poor. Why do you think that?

I hint you are being a little too hard on yourself because from your work you look you can fight. Conversely though to me it doesn’t look like you have spent much time in a boxing gym. Just some notes from a non mma perspective.
Step with your punches and movements instead of just hopping/sliding. More mobile in your hips it will help with your chin and xposure in your punches that you alluded to.tryslowing it down a bit and straighten out your punches
Just saying what I would do if I was in your shoes I am not a coach and just a rusty amateur getting back into the swing of things.
You’re shadow boxing looks much better than how you described it in your first post.

UFC apartments “just lease” “as real as it gets”

Lucky bastard. Who paid for that shit god dammit?
Actually its a condo in a newer building, we pay monthly "condo fees" that go towards the gym that nobody uses. Its actually not a bad little workout room, i should take advantage of it more.

Yea After watching it back I definately should have been taking an angle after each combo, and also moving more towards the right not just circling to the left.

Yea that’s a good point after you finish a combo pivot to the way you finish the punch. Right go right left go left. You can also finish a combo with a jab as a neutralizer.

ALso an old boxing adage for you to work on footwork. But you should be able to check your movement by being able to throw a solid rooted right hand. That’s true for every step. Try doing your pivots bd steps slower and after you take your step throw a purposeful right hand. If your hopping and sliding it hinders the right. Vs proper stepping which should let you really drop a nice feeling right.

Thanks, yea your right I think itd help if I slowed down the pivots and make sure my feet are set before throwing, I think thats why I slide around a bit my feet arent set and my punches are kinda throwing me off balance if that makes sense.

You definitely don't look anywhere near as bad as you make out. It's pretty easy to tell that you have real combat experience.

You might know this already but you have a pretty major 'tell' before you attack - you drop your guard in exactly the same way just before the jab-cross. You did this for most of your combos.

Yea its always kinda been an issue for me although I think its gotten a little better over time I'm clearly still doing it if you picked up on it. Ive heard it called "the salt shaker" where I kind of shake my fists before I throw.
