Can Vettori get the strap?

He went the distance with the champ.

First UFC Italian champ?

Or is that a done deal?

I dunno..that was an amazing fight...

As a canadian born italian...brings a tear to my eye that he could be champion but that was savage by both men...

Hermanson is not human...im convinced ..he was not letting go of that fight till the end

I had it closer then the judges but vettori won.

Great fight...if he can get past costa i think hes ready for Izzy or whittaker whoevers champion then

I agree, both guys have improved since their first one and the way to beat Izzy will to constant grind him like a guy like Martin will do. Izzy has had it easy considering he has has kickboxing matches for the most part in his mma career.

That was back when Israel was still figuring out how to optimize his striking while being in position to defend wrestling.

I hate Israel a lot but he'd smoke Marvin in a rematch.

Still had a camp though, disingenuous to suggest zero camp.

Ok but you have assume that one fighter was training for 5 rounds and was focused on endurance and pace while the other fighter was aiming for a much shorter fight.

Also Vettori has never had a 5 round fight before. His output given he's never done one was pretty crazy.

He went 5 rounds tonight and helped set a record for strikes thrown in a middleweight UFC fight.

In his first 5 round fight and taking the fight with almost no camp on short notice...

I'd say given his output and practically zero camp, his gas tank was surprisingly good.
He had a full camp and was going to fight next weekend. And the thing is, he won't be able to take 300+ strikes from someone like Izzy, or even Whittaker really. He showed he's very hittable despite his own out put tonight. But his grappling looked great. You could tell he was training for Jacare.

Hmmm

A full camp for a 3 round fight and a full camp for a 5 round fight are very different things.

And he already fought Israel to a split decision and took his best shots.

he matches up better with Izzy than anyone else @ MW and hes the only guy to have a winning scorecard officially against him too

hes improved loads since then but obviously Izzy has too.

Vettori 2.0 vs Izzy will be a great fight.

Took that fight against Jack on very short notice and went 5 hard rounds

On a full camp he will be alot better

IF Marvin gets the belt, that means Ali Dominance MMA will have the 125, 135, 145, 155, 170, and 185 belts assuming CCC comes back and takes his belts back and Zabit gets the strap.

Wasn't that literally Izzy's first fight in the UFC? Izzy 2018 is not the same as Izzy 2021.

If he grapples Izzy he can absolutely win. Great chin, cardio, & much superior grappling.

Marvin is a very competent grappler. I don't think his takedowns are good enough for Israel and Rob though, and like you said I very much doubt he can hang with either of them on the feet, especially Israel.

While on steroids.

Adesanya has adapted to MMA quite a bit since that fight. But I agree about Vettori"s cardio. I think he purposefully coasted in the 3rd round so he would have something left for the championship rounds. Great fight.

No it was actually his second fight.

did you know that Vettori was his first decision win? He had 12 finishes by strikes going into that fight.

He's had 4 decision wins since fighting Vettori so if anything his finish ratio has dropped dramatically.

Perhaps, But he would pressure Izzy and go for TD's not being a punching bag aka Costa.

So the 6 month suspension he got because USADA declared that he did not intentionally cheat is the noveau thing on here?

You don't get 6 months for Ostarine unless you are Jon Jones.

This was his fight high level win, so much to test, but my gt says no. His path to victory against Izzy his getting things to the mat, but I haven't seen much to suggest that he's got the wrestling to make that happen. Izzy's takedown defense has looked really on point and constantly improving since they fought. Marvin looks to have improved at being just a big strong well rounded guy.

I think some might call Marvin a goon but that's really not fair. He has good technical acumen everywhere. I think what will probably limit him as he fight more top ten opponents is the master of none thing. It would be easier to get away with if he had more power in his fists, but alas.
