Can Someone Please Give Me the Good News About Trump's Tariffs?

These are great responses from you, Polish, and Mike.

What I am finding interesting is that a lot of them are predicated on the strength of a free market, something which one would think would be the bread and butter of right wing posters. Oddly though, it seems - and correct me if I'm wrong, right leaning fellows - that they're in favour of the curtailment of the free market principles being espoused by you, in particular. It's a strange bizarro world.

Would any of the right wing posters like to weigh in on that? Why are we in favour of tariffs ahead of the free market principles being espoused by the more left leaning posters here?

Leftists aren't against the free market, we embrace it. The free spreading of ideas is the most liberal of ideals. Free trade is the ultimate expression of that idea.

Leftist just want to use some of the trillions and trillions of profits generated to make every single American's life better regardless of race, creed, religion or sexual orientation as right instead of just a select few that control the levers.

This seems relevant

"The company said the layoffs and plant closure were a direct result of US tariffs on goods imported from China, including important parts that Element uses to put together TVs."

I saw this this morning too.

I wish I knew more about this, but China is successfully pushing for global presence while we are dicking around in the ME.

If these tariffs work to curb Chinese expansion, I am for them

Should do something about that big antennae they've erected in Argentina too.

The US has really been sleeping on this

But at what cost?

The plant in South Carolina is shutting down because of it...

A lot of people will have to look forwards to some rough times this Christmas.

So what is the purpose?

I'm buried under parenthood I can't keep up with this stuff like I used to

Dick-measuring contest, as everything else the orange cunt does. He knows that the hordes of dumbass peasants who voted for him only care about appearances and also love reality TV so he makes every international interaction a dick-measuring contest so that they can all vicariously, through his illiterate ramblings, feel the superiority of Murca over all other commie/socialist/dictatorship shitholes comprising the rest of the world, while they guzzle their Natty Ice in their trailers (or, worse yet, above-ground pools)

Other countries will prosper by them selling their shit instead of US of A.

I'm sure his followers will tell you it's some 4D chess bullshit about forcing them to give us a "new deal".

There's only one "New Deal" I am interested in getting. And it's not something China can provide.

The Pacific trade deal that Clinton and Trump stupidly disliked was designed to contain China by excluding them and/or forcing them into a larger trade scheme. Now they are manhandling the smaller countries one by one. We can improve our trade relationship with using tarrifs perhaps, but the tarrifs will have no impact on their sphere of influence.

You really believe what you just posted? Do you realize what is ACTUALLY happening in real time is the exact opposite of what you posted.

And LOL at people now acting as if TPP was going to reign in China.

*Looks at the rising stock market and the bending of wills of other nations*

Couldn't tell ya.

China Slams 25-Percent Tariff On American Cars And Motorcycles

In addition to cars and motorcycles, China targetted a total of 333 types of American imports, including coal, crude oil, grease, asphalt, plastic products, scrap metal, and recyclables, according to CNBC."

Ramping up pressure on China in an effort to get them to come to the table and make a deal. It is worth a shot!

The moral of the story is that any kind of trade restriction hurts everyone. Trump and all people who are against free trade are idiots.
