Can Nate Diaz make 145?

Why would he?

Why put his body through the cut to get there, all to fight someone he's already demolished in a division that said person called "dead"?

He's very lean at the 155 weigh ins. The only way for him to make 145 would be for him to sacrifice some muscle, which would hurt his performance. Not worth it IMO, especially at this stage of his career.

Then why are there so many threads saying that Conor and Nate are the same weight class?

Because Conor is a very big 145'er and would be similar-sized to most of the LW division, and Nate is a lightweight. Not complicated.

Probably because Conor is one of the biggest weight cutters in the UFC. Maybe Nate could make it too if he wanted to look like he stepped out of Auschwitz.

Even Christian Bale can make it for the movies:

Lots of guys cut more than 20 lbs.

Nah. He's naturally too big. He'd look worse than Florian cutting to 145. And Florian looked like he was going to die.

And from Conor's own coach's mouth, he cuts over 25. That's a fucking HUGE cut for a FW. Yet people rag on Jon Jones for cutting 10-15 pounds at LHW.

In bodybuilding that's sometimes called the 'look of death'. It's what you see when a bodybuilder gets down to like 3-4% bodyfat and dehydrates them self so you can see all the striations The worst I can remember was James Irvin @185, but Conor @145 is right up there.

Irvin:

A good example of a bodybuilder with the death look:

The sunken in cheeks are a hallmark of massive fat and water loss. The fat pads in a person's cheeks are one of the last places the body will lose fat from, along with glutes, the last bit around the midsection, and the pads in the hands and feet. I've heard of bodybuilders saying that it's painful for them to stand on stage because the weight cut means they have less padding under their feet than normal.

Sacrifice what muscles? The guy is already as lean as he could be for his height.
Nate is the Mcgregor of the LW division in that sense that he towers the other guys, the height differential between Diaz-Mcgregor is twice than that of Mcgregor-Mendes.
They even have similarities when one of them have the reach advantage and keeps distance and pick their opponents apart.

Personally I'm one of the fans that wishes they would control this weight cutting issue...I still cant believe that Rumble fought at 170 ( didnt do him any good either)

He could be leaner. Weigh-in Diaz is maybe at 7-8% bodyfat and he could drop to 4-5%. He could also lose muscle if he had to. You can always lose muscle. Just ask Christian Bale. In that photo people always post from 'The Machinist', bale is around 120-130 lbs. at the same height as Nate Diaz, 6'.

Nate could starve and dehydrate himself down to 145 if he wanted to, but the question is whether or not he'd retain his fighting skill in the process of losing the size.

Only a desperate Connie Boi Mac lover would ask that question.

Nah. Conor going into that fight looked no more than 5-7 lb apart from Nate, but the difference is Nate has a horrible body type to cut weight. He's skinny/lanky, so compared to a guy like Sherk his muscles/body don't retain as much water. I'd still think Cerrone cuts more weight to get to LW than Nate does.

Cerrone used to talk about cutting to FW so I'm not so sure. I never thought Cowboy looked that drained at weigh-ins. I mean you can tell he's obviously cutting but I never thought he looked like a concentration camp victim.

It could be all bullshit, of course but Cerrone also said he would have cut to 155 if he had gotten the fight with Conor and he just came off his WW fight with Oliveira.
