Can Conor improve his cardio with training ?

Marginally. He's been a pro athlete for 13 years in a sport that's notorious for its cardio intensive training. His cardio problems have been known for a long time, yet they persist. There's no way he hasn't tried to fix it already. In brief, he's just not cut out for cardio and it will always be his biggest flaw as a fighter.

Sure, but i think he needs to do a lot of worst case scenario training, like Randy used to do. Put yourself in the worst spots and try to fight through it during traing. It creates mental toughness and helps push through rough spots in a fight. I don't think his cardio is the real issue. I'm sure his cardiovascularity and lung capacity aren't that bad.

I am always impressed by how Conor 2.0 was just waiting for shots instead of giving it back, like.. wtf, dude looked bad.

Definitely. McGregor has been known in the past as a guy who always made his opponents pay for getting too aggressive, but here he traded 1 punch for like 20 from Porier…

Going into the fight, I felt that a sequence like that would have been what a good counter-puncher like McGregor would have wanted. You would think he would’ve been able to find a few more openings in between Porier’s offense.

Watching that Conor/Poirier 2 what I saw was Conor trying to not be so fast twitch, and just trying to conserve energy. It didn't work so well. His physical blessing is also his curse. He needs to maintain the distance that he used to be known for. If he doesn't have the motivation anymore then he aught to retire and save his dignity. And brain.

He just needs to slow down and move more, he was rooted to the spot against Dustin trading in the pocket when he should have been on his feet like he has been during his successful bouts. He showed in Nate 2 that he can pace himself when he keeps a clear focus but he clearly tried to put Dustin away early in their fight which was his downfall.
I don't think cardio can save him Vs Dustin though tbh, Dustin has evolved so much in the time Conor has been inactive, his whole game is far more rounded than Conors at this stage. If it goes further in the rounds I would back Dustin to finish him via sub this time.

He can work on his punching power cardio. Boxers can maintain power punches through 12 rounds. It's possible, just need that same type of training.
Boxers spend years starting from their youth doing this....Conor is like 32-33 years old. And this isn't boxing, it's MMA. If boxers started getting grappled, their arms would be filled with lactic acid, hurting their cardio.

Conor needs to work on his pace if he wants to win. He has a good relentless pace but it only works for 1.5-2 rounds. Slow it down a tiny bit

Then by the end of the second round he was literally offering little to no defense and not even trying to get up as Khabib smashed him with punches

You sure? Lol. You haven't watched the fight in a while clearly

So he "wasn't even trying to get up" but he got up? Must have been some magic then.

That Hiit cardio he’s doing is not gonna do the trick

First off he has to go train in altitude
Then he needs to do cardio at 60% steady and long, elliptical machine is a good option for him so he doesn’t hurt his knees

I don’t think McGregor’s problem is with cardio, it’s more with pacing.

An Olympic track and field athlete can have amazing cardio, but if he doesn’t respect his splits, he will get tired in the later laps.
Yoel is another great example. He was known to gas in the later rounds till he started picking his shots and drastically reduced his volume.

McGregor starts every fight with a sprint, it’s not surprising that his pace is not sustainable.

Did you ever heard about genetics? And please stop with this annoying money excuses. If he really only cared about money he would have retired for real or simply do 1000 fights with Mayweather and Paul brothers.
...so you are saying is that money payed no part in anything?

Conor already ruined his stand up by building his body for better grappling.

It's not only skill, the body changes and adapts for what you're doing.

His cardio isnt a physical problem, its a mental one. He cant handle it when things arent going his way. He should change camp, somewhere where they dont have it his way, where hes just another fighter and not the boss

his style of fighting and his lack of heart is the reason why he has shit cardio.
he will never have good cardio, period.

He could have great cardio but his body would change dramatically, he would need to drop below featherweight, where he was already too muscular. I weight 70 kg at 5.10 and can go 3 rounds of light MT sparring. If I had to fight 12 rounds of boxing my whole energy system would need to change, I would end up at 60 kg. That's how we are built.

That's just another excuse people make. Boxers have training camps as well, they get their arm conditioning through that. They don't keep it at that level of conditioning without doing the work. Conor just isn't throwing nearly as many power punches during his training sessions compared to boxers that's why he can't keep that pace and boxers can. It's really that simple. That's like wondering why a guy that only runs a mile here and there doesn't have as good cardio as someone that runs 5 miles. It's a pretty simple concept. People just need to stop making excuses about boxers boxing since kids etc. How long has these people been training mma and other martial arts? Lots of boxers had late starts and still got to the top of the division, even in mma that happens. So all that is just excuses about their training and why they aren't improving as fast as others.
