Can Conor improve his cardio with training ?

Doesn't matter since he peaked as a fighter a few years ago and hasn't changed anything in his skill set to adjust to todays competition.

Even if he did, it wouldn't suit him because it would cause him to be less powerful. He has been fighting as an explosive fast twitch fighter for all of his career, he can't suddenly change to a cardio machine. He's use to winning by overwhelming his opponents with precise pressure counterstriking.

In terms of numbers, he's probably a 9/10 when it comes to power at LW, but a 4/10 when it comes to cardio.

Meanwhile Dustin is like a 8/10 in power, but a 8/10 in terms of cardio.

Conor could control his pace, but then he would end up succumbing to his opponents pressure

There have been recent studies that have shown there's a huge variation in how much people can improve VO2 max , with some people barely able to improve at all.

I think cardio is mostly genetic. It can probably improve with a lot of hard work, but not by a lot. He should just get on that EPO train.

Cardio is genetics, like strength.

It's difficult for someone who workouts regularly to suddenly increase their strength.

He can work on his punching power cardio. Boxers can maintain power punches through 12 rounds. It's possible, just need that same type of training.

Genetics is an excuse a lot use, that only separates elite cardio and elite strength. Everyone can get high level cardio and high level strength regardless of genetics through hard work.

He needs to get out there and pound that damn pavement. Running would do wonders. I go 5 days a week, roughly 40 miles per week and I have cardio for days. Think I heard he has bad knees though? Or did I just make that up?
Was gonna say "miss those days, now my knees are fucked" except I ain't even 25, fml

Don’t believe Conor’s cardio is an issue.. he was beating Dustin pretty easily until the kicks .. he didn’t react the proper way ( no pun intended ) and he paid for it .

i doubt it.

give him all the epo in the world and lert him blood dope all he wants and he still wouldnt have good cardio.

He could but it's a lot of work. Guys that hit hard and have quick fights most of their career tend to have bad cardio. They don't get it pushed often to start change. That and doing cardio sucks. You look at Tony Ferguson. It's not a coincidence that his cardio is great he runs like a mad man and trains hard.

Boxers don't have to deal with heavy grappling, body kicks and leg kicks.

even if he did, Poirier will still beat him again lol

Lmao

Yes…

But I don’t think that will help him much when he is getting swarmed with punches.

He throws a left that misses Dustin's chin during that swarm right at the beginning. Maybe it could've been different but I don't see Conor having anything for Poirier in the rematch. The intensity of Dustin is the product of good Cardio too. I am always impressed by how Conor 2.0 was just waiting for shots instead of giving it back, like.. wtf, dude looked bad.

His cardio has improved since the Mayweather fight

He hasn't had that gas out moment since the Diaz 2 fight in MMA

lies. He was tired after the first round against Khabib. Then by the end of the second round he was literally offering little to no defense and not even trying to get up as Khabib smashed him with punches. As Khabib played with his food in the 3rd, the 4th you could tell Conor had nothing left and gave up his neck when he was ready to quit.

No, I don't believe he will EVERT have the cardio of those guys.

He CAN improve his cardio, that's for sure.
But those guys come from a whole lifetime of training hard and improving/keeping their cardio.
You don't just get it but trying hard for a couple of years.

But he could definitely improve, if this was his prime focus... Unfortunately, money and fame are a very good argument of why he does not have to do so, and I think he 100% agrees with it...
Did you ever heard about genetics? And please stop with this annoying money excuses. If he really only cared about money he would have retired for real or simply do 1000 fights with Mayweather and Paul brothers.

I know literally nothing about this subject but i have a theory that after a certain point you hit a max cardio limit. like if you get in shape over the course of 2 years its never going to get much better than that. even 2 years might be longer than you need of serious cardio training. once you're in shape youre in shape, theres a max. I mean theres boxers who let themselves get completely out of shape between fights. they do absolutely nothing for a year, and all they need is a camp to get back in shape. I used to do long distance running when I was younger, but never that serious, so maybe ppl who have trained for ,marathons or whatever the fk could tell me differently

He can improve it but being on one end of the spectrum or the other isnt doable. You just have it.

A big part of it Conor isn't a very natural or athletic puncher. Most of his punches aren't anything amazing technically, with the exception of his backstepping left. His left when chasing is usually overthrown.

Also, a lot of his cardio issue is probably mental. Be it losing focus since he's so dialed in early or getting discouraged when he can't finish a guy fast.
