Can Chris Barnett cut to 265? If so, UFC should pick him up.

I hope so, I want to see him fight in the UFC.

If he can make 265 then definitely, he's super fun to watch. He would be a fan favorite like Roy Nelson. Although he should be at 240-245 ideally, so he needs to drop about 80 pounds.

Can he cut the weight? Not from where he is now. He was in the 320s for his last fight, but was in the 340s for the Wiuff fight. He needs to diet down quite a bit to make the cut minimal.

But yeah, I'd love to see him at a higher level. He would probably have been there already if he would commit to getting in better shape. The dude is 300+ doing 360 jump kicks and shit. Imagine what he does in great shape.

I personally always thought he should be in Bellator. I thought guys like Beast Boy, Tony Johnson Jr, Afrozilla, etc should have been in Bellator (Johnson fought there once where he beat current UFC fighter Derrick Lewis). They are guys I thought might be good enough for the UFC, but still needed to prove themselves in bigger promotions. If Beast Boy could prove he could consistently make the weight, and beat good fighters (which I think he can do), I'd like to see him in the UFC, or at least in Bellator.

I will never understand why I should rather watch 115lb men and women fight than the biggest, strongest men of them all. Its FIGHTING. I am tuning in to see who the toughest guys are, and you've eliminated all truly big men. If you put money into the purses I could watch someone like Hafthor Bjornsson fight..... but there's no weight class for the Titans of men... rather, I should get excited to watch Gary Coleman go at it with Emmanuel Lewis. Ok.

You shouldn't rather watch them. You should watch what you like. But there are plenty of us who do like watching the smaller weights just as much (more for some). So you don't have to prefer it or even like it at all. But it should be there for those of us who do like it.

They need to lift the HW restriction already, bring the freaks in...

The problem is then you would have guys like this coming in out of shape. That has always been a problem for SHW. A lot of the more popular and bigger name SHWs have also been able to make HW. When they do, they are in better shape and they perform better. I think Tim Sylvia is the most obvious example, but I would include guys like Chris Barnett in that as well. He can be in shape and make HW and look good. But when they aren't forced to be in shape, they often show up overweight. How big was Barnett for the Wiuff fight? There is no need for that. I like these guys and like to see them fighting at their best.

Now, if there are elite fighters who are in shape and have trouble getting to 265, and there are enough of them to warrant it, maybe raise the limit. SHW is there for guys not committed enough to get into fighting shape, or for those who simply can't. There just isn't enough of them at the elite level to warrant creating that division in the UFC right now.

Look to other sports for a second. Now, because MMA pay is low, the biggest fellas go to other sports. But take a good look - there are 300+lb ATHLETES all over the place.

That is why there is no reason for the UFC to have a SHW division or to remove the weight limit. If those athletes ever do start coming to MMA in large enough numbers, then maybe things will change. But for now, there just aren't enough of them who are at the elite level who can't make 265.

I agree. Remember how PRIDE had no HW cap and it was dominated by 300+ pound guys. Oh wait...

So we should never let them fight again? Ok.
A completely untrained Bob Sapp nearly killed the #2 Heavyweight in the world in Pride. If that isn't interesting to you on a 'what makes a fighter dangerous' level....

One heavy handed mofo. Would be interesting to see what a 5ft 9in HW would fair. I don't know that he could even hit someone like Browne in the face. Let him come in and fight Struve for his first fight.
Hunt is only 5'10" and he had no problem closing the distance vs. Struve.

he's already made the 265 limit for a couple of his fights.

They dominate boxing.

he can make it. he's fighting in japan for their new years card then he's going to get down to 265. huggy bear/beast boy is built like a tank, he would do well in the ufc. but I think he's leaning toward bellator to be honest. no matter what 2015 should be a big year for him.

also, he's only 290 now and has been making some dietary changes as of late. he will get back down to hw, just watch.

His last fight he was about 330 and his fight before he was about 340.I have always liked him as a fighter but he has done nothing special and just keeps getting fatter.I also remember some pretty shit performances that looked directly because of his conditioning.I have watched most or all of his fights. In that 3 years off you speak of he pulled out of 5 fights and even no showed a weigh in probably cause he was waaaaaaaaay over. His win over Walt Harris means nothing when Harris had literally just started mma.Personally yes I would like to see him in the UFC,should they pick him up right now?No probably not, close though once he get's near 265 and get's another ok win. When they are picking up guy's like Ruan Potts though I guess Chris should be a shoe-in

a lot of HWs just aren't fast or technically very good. they just have KO power. i find HW fights often kind of boring. two fat blobs hugging it out or one fat blob (roy nelson) dropping his head and winging punches. sure there are some good big athletic HWs, but i tend not to get excited for most matches. i guess there's always a high chance of a KO, but that doesn't always mean there was a good fight.

Another embarrassment to mma. I can't wait for real athletes who can fight to enter hw.

If Prindle and Barnett and Sylvia and the gang were allowed to fight with our heavyweights, ONLY THE ONES WITH CARDIO would survive and stay on the roster. In your mind is two lower level fatties swinging for the fences for 3 minutes, and then breathing hard the rest of the time. In my mind is one of those guys gassed getting shit-stomped by an actual in shape big man. But SOME of those big bastards would adapt, or already be able, to last longer... and they would add an awesome element to heavyweight fights.

Someone like Bigfoot, for example, he's a real fighter, in good shape, but he has to starve muscle off himself to make weight. I think that's horrible in a sport where the goal is to find out the best fighter.... having guys make themselves worse to make a fabricated limit is backwards thinking.

True, starve yourself couple of weeks, even months n then go fight. You be lucky to be at 50%.

Shw silva would've stomp Cain.

He's only 28.

I think he should spend 2-4 years in Bellator, getting himself in shape, then move to the UFC, if he's showing promise.
