Can anyone have a conversation anymore?

I have a bad habit of talking over people when on the phone. I hate that I do it, no one has complained but I bothers me I do it.

Conversation is a dying art. Attention spans are so short now.
I find that sometimes happens with people I can only assume are very lonely, you know, they don't get enough chance to talk and they go full retard when they do. they definitely can be exhausting, lots of lonely people out there, lots and they'll get through to you if they can and befriend you.

None will break ranks, though nations trek from progress.
Courage was mine, and I had mystery;
Wisdom was mine, and I had mastery;
To miss the march of this retreating world
Into vain citadels that are not walled.

Missed the mark on me by a mile. I eschew conversation on the phone and revel in my alone time. If you guessed mind numbing boredom since I had a kid and stopped drinking you would of made me

i think my phone conversation issue is caused by my ADD, I can't sit and talk, I have to walk around it pace the whole time.

I don't think this is necessarily a new thing. People love to talk about themselves but many of them don't want to reciprocate. They generally seem unaware of what they're doing as well. I guess the people with better social skills organically learned not to monopolize a conversation even when they're tempted to, so this habit self-selects for people with a lower level of insight.

There were studies showing that the brain structures involved in the reward system light up when you ask someone a question about themselves. You're literally giving them a small high. That can be useful sometimes when you're trying to induce quick liking and get something out of them, e.g. sales.

Its hard for me to have an intelligent conversation with anyone. I havd to dumb myself down to talk to people. I don't really care about your sisters wedding or some new cereal you tried etc.

If you want to captivate me talk to me about emerging technologies like AI, philosophical principles or dazzle me with history.

or talk to you about your landlady

something like that happened to me a year ago, three fingers on each hand, thank god it went away, it was probably because I was playing piano too much. from pinky to middle finger all were numbe.
14% of sherdoggers have the extra muscle (accessory anconeus). My doc said he can do a shot around the nerve that might fix it. Could be worth mentioning.

Guess I’m out of that age group because people I speak with know how to have a decent conversation. A dab of small talk. A bit of joking and then on to important matters. Only have an issue with really dumb, those who have no idea about what’s happening, or really young people.

The muscle is called 'accessory anconeus', and my doc says that theres a cheap painless shot that might help loosen things up.

Maybe worth looking into if it flares up again. 14% of sherdoggers have it, and your account is pretty old so you might have 2 or 3

I remember a Bill Clinton, George Bush interview and Bill said something about being the last conversant generation, meaning where people ate around a dinner table and tv or other distractions hadn't screwed us up so bad. I think its very true. My generation was better than the current one but the people in knew that were born in the 20's and 30's were way past all of us.

These kids now? forget it, they can't string a sentence together without stuttering, halting, or saying um's, uhs, they are retarded and it's not even their faults. It's visible with our entertainers, if you look back at our black entertainers of earlier times, guys like cab calloway and duke ellington were eloquent as aristocrats, motown artists, somehow, from inner city detroit and usually one gen removed from the south could speak very well----now, go listen to some rapper being interviewed. We're fucked.

the thing where people interupt, common, most of my friends wanted to do all the talking and interupting and no listening. It's one of the reasons why I don't really talk to them anymore.

I also think all the computers and cell phones have just splintered our attention so bad that we might never get it back together. People looking at their cells in the middle of traffic, people walking with their faces into it. It's one of the biggest problems i see with modern society and no one sees it as a problem until maybe some criminal busts them in their no paying attention head and robs them or they cause a wreck. I know personally that since I started driving delivery, it's gotten harder to concentrate on just one thing because I started getting into the habit of thinking of several things at once, driving, the app, the order, the customer, it's hurt my ability to focus.
We still reaping the benefits of the covid lockdowns, that did some serious damage to the younger generation.

several years ago I brought up simulation theory to my best friend and telling him how I read an article saying things like trumps first victory and some superbowl game from the time ended up going wackily awry were proof that we were some entertainment to some computer operator. Anyway, I just said that with how we are getting, with the melding with the computer/cell, "we're halfway there now" in terms of being the operator of our own world. that was in 2016 or so and it gets worse and worse. No one seems to realize the problems caused by parking a baby in front of a screen all day, I've seen several kids raised this way and all of them have their own cells now when they don't need it. So much of what goes on is socially engineered to happen the way it does, that goes for our entertainment too.
I personally don't believe in the simulation theory but I get the sentiment and think the analogy can be helpful when trying to explain the state of things today and explaining the damage done by tech and entertainment.

You should check out Marshall Mcluhan's book, Understanding media. He had this stuff figured out back in the 60s. It helped me get a more holistic understanding of the damage modern tech has done to us.

I don't believe in Simulation theory either but some people much smarter than me do. I just don't understand what would be so interesting to anyone about 99.99 percent of what goes on in the world.
