Cain Velasquez is Mexican/isn't Mexican Thread ***Threads Merged***

hard to argue against that logic. care to give an explanation?

What you said is quite obvious, but it doesn't apply to the context of the discussion. Besides the post you replied to it's not really saying otherwise.

But hey. Do you have earlier post where you think Velasquez shouldn't consider himself a Mexican?

but just because you feel something, does not mean that it is what you are. a white person can feel as black as any other actual black person, but that person will never be black.

Are you saying Caitlyn Jenner isn't a woman?

>Mexico sucks so bad that Cain's dad illegally crosses border 7 times

>Cain's dad dreams of a better life in the US

>Cain's dad does everything he can to leave Mexico

>Somehow Mexico is responsible for the greatness of Cain

I'm confuzzled. Cain's father risked life, limb and the possibility of prison to get the fuck out of Mexico to make a better life for himself and the children he wanted. Cain's father is a criminal who broke US law over and over to escape Mexico, but somehow the Cain family is more proud of Mexico than the United States?

A. Who cares? B. See A. C. Mexican is not a race. D. Look, bunnies!

Cane McLasquez is supposed to star in the new movie of Marvel, as the MAIN CHARACTER!!!

for me, it's simple: cain can feel that he is a mexican, but like i said earlier in this thread, mexicans who were actually born and raised in mexico, would not consider him mexican. that's why i brought up the example of those americans of italian and of irish descent who would not fit if they went to italy and ireland, and told the locals that they too were italian and irish.

"feeling" something, and, "being" something are completely different things. perception is everything, in this case. at least in my opinion. how others see you determines how you'll be labeled. whether someone likes it or not.

Tell that to the NAACP.

I agree that one's personal feelings are not the end all and be all of their identity. This is why I consider Bruce Jenner and Fallon Fox men despite their feelings to the contrary. However, in terms of things like one's cultural background, there is a lot of subjectivity involved. It is not as objective a question as what Velasquez' citizenship is.

we'll have to agree to disagree.

Well, we don't know how mexicans born and raised in Mexico would consider him Mexican.

The bottom line to me is that he was raised in a Mexican family in a latin neighborhood and 30 minutes away from Mexico where he used to visit family frequently. So it's easy to see why he considers himself Mexican. And also important that most Mexican mma fans support his idea of him being a Mexican.

What is this image referencing? Did the white woman on the right get a race change?

He's a proud Mexican American....It's also marketing bro, to get all the Latino fans on his side. If he was carrying the American flag, you think he would have as much fans as he does now? Now stop with all this race crap.

Cain quote:

"I was born in America and I’m proud to be American, but my parents are from Mexico and I’m proud of my heritage, too," Velasquez said. Jun 10, 2015

He's an American who's respects his heritage. People just don't understand how things work in the US...

An American of Mexican descent.

He was not born in Mexico and does not hold a mexican passport.
That means he is not mexican.
Mexican is a nationality, not an ethnicity.
