Try to make them as short as possible. I'll get us started by listing both why some people might think he IS or ISN'T:

Cain IS Mexican because:

- He likely has Mexican citizenship

- He was raised by two Mexican immigrant parents, so his upbringing, at home at least, was very Mexican

Cain ISN'T Mexican because:

- He was born (less importantly) and grew up (more importantly) in the United States, making him culturally American in many ways

- He lives year-round in the United States

- Though he does have a very good command of the Spanish language, he does not speak the language like a native speaker, like any "real Mexican" would

Thoughts?

Cain is American with proud Mexican roots. Normal. Go look in the mirror and wonder why you're proud of your roots.

dont forget he uses good ol fashioned murican wrasslin

mexican style tho...

If Cain had Mexican citizenship I think we would know what with how the UFC is trying to portray him as Mexican and people are saying he isn't. He's probably eligible for Mexican citizenship but I don't think he is a Mexican citizen.

There is no "if" Cain is an American of Mexican descent.

This whole thing is almost as annoying as the title "African American".

inb4 "brown pride tattoo is racist". Seriously though, just like with Stann and Kennedy, it's more the Zuffa PR Department playing up their military service, than the fighters themselves talking about it. I mean Kennedy talks about it a bit, but nothing like what's-his-face-that-won-TUF (you know, the handsome guy with the really exciting wrestling style). Same with Cain - he was kind of groomed to be this crossover star into what Zuffa hopes will be their next market (that being countries in Latin America other than Brazil). The problem has been that he has been inactive for long stretches, has no personality, and speaks Spanish like Michael Bloomberg did.

is he american because he was born there or because he grew up there?

I'm mostly of the belief that you are what you feel/think you are. If you've eaten Mexican food al your life but don't like it, it doesn't mean much. If you live in America but don't feel at home there, it doesn't mean much. If you think Mexican culture fits you, that's something. If you think you have something in common with Mexicans, that's something. Wether or not you speak Spanish, whatever your passport says, history of where you lived, race of your parents, birthplace, doesn't really matter if you don't feel Mexican. Those things are an indicator of exposure to the culture, I guess, though, and it shows how much you care and know about the culture, I guess. Well, my 2 cents.

Alexander Hamilton wasn't born in the United States.

But he lived the majority of his life in the US and made great contributions to the American army and government and was a huge factor in why we have the consititution and not the articles of confederation. Cain has a Mexican flag mouthpiece.

Cain is Mexican. When you think about, what makes you a national of a certain country is the LAW of said country. Some countries work on the basis of IUS SOLIS, which means people born within the boarders of that country will automaticaly be a national; and some work with IUS SANGUINIS, which means the sons of nationals will also be nationals, even if born abroad. Some countries work with both.
Taking a look at Mexico's Constitution, I found this:

The Mexican Constitution states that Mexicans Citizens by birth are:
persons born abroad of a Mexican Citizen born in Mexico

So, Cain IS mexican, according to their own law, considering his parents are citizens of Mexico born in Mexico. By the same standards, we can also know that Cain's offspring will not be considered Mexicans.

He took a white mans jerb and gets payed less to do it.

I wonder if someone will be so bold as to say Werdum is more Mexican than Cain. Werdum is kind of doing the promotional stuff in Mexico and the feeling at home stuff in Mexico while Cain is doing the tourist stuff like he's never been there.

He wasn't born in mexico, he's never lived in mexico, he does not exhibit any mexican cultural traits (language, music, art, etc).
