Bye Sherdog.

I've been here since TUF1. I don't post much in UFC and I don't watch it anymore.

But I like Mayberry. It's still a cool place here.

Oh and Mods are WAY better than they were for a while there. I once got yellow cards for implying Reem wasn't all natural. It used to be super strict with stuff like fighter bashing and no ass floss. They've gotten much more relaxed. But they still have to crack down if someone is a total ass.
Dude, it's January.
New Avi is in order.

Sherdog is dying.

Mods are the reason. The decrease in traffic and accounts is their fault

Ufc is another reason.
All of your "contributions" to this site have been a net negative. If the administration here deserves any blame for their interactions with you, it's for not IP banning you to at least force you to pay for a VPN.

I'm guessing that wrestling doesn't offer much beyond coaching pay, then high level wrestler get to continue another 10+ years. I wouldn't say Gable Stevenson is fighting regionals for the 1k or whatever they give him, but he's doing it for a long term investment when he hits the UFC and is almost an instant lock to top 5.

We've seen so many wrestlers cross over from college, I don't see that the ones that go straight into mma training are in a complete better position, but then again it seems like the training from Dagestan is complete and they seem to do better than the normal wrestlers. The international issue is what's been happening in the US where if money is 10x as much back home, they'll do it quite cheaper and bid down contracts. 100k is 2 houses in most the world, but a shitty shack in the US, guess UFC is using the global labor pool just like every other company.

People from Dagestan are not wrestlers at all, let alone normal ones. Islam began wrestling casually as a kid in his village but his first serious martial art was Tae Kwon Do and his coach would go on to be an Olympian, he was like 8 at the time. By 12 he had met Khabib and began training and competing with Abdulmanap and that point it was Sambo with cross training in Judo, Wrestling and striking arts. He was fighting pro in MMA by 18-19. Khabib similar, wrestled in youth, began focusing on Combat Sambo, Abdulmanap pulled him out to do Judo for a full year to get better with Gi Manipulation, he also had him compete in hand to hand combat and Pankration tournaments through his teens along with Combat Sambo. By 19-20 he was having pro Mma fights and early on made the connection to cross train at AKA as Abdulmanap saw the importance in more nuanced striking training at the time and didnt want them to go to Thailand due to all the debauchery and temptation. Usman, Umar...all similar stories. These guys were all teenagers when their goal was to be a world champ in MMA and were competing and training in various Combat sports and marrial arts well before they were 10 yeads old. Plus....20k in Dagestan is a fortune, they fucking make it big even if then scrub out.

Gabel isnt a real comparison, hes like the youngest US Olympic gold medalist in freestyle ever. He wanted to pursue MMA first but the UFC wouldnt offer him a deal, so he did the WWE thing for 200k annually as a development contract but they released him because he was terrible. Theres plenty of D1 wrestlers making peanuts in MMA right now. And they will be 10-1 when they sign to the UFC for 28k/28k plus a reebok voucher.

See join date? Been a while... I must be one of the oldest members in this forum. Opened an account when I was in high school, when Fedor was on the rise and Wandy was the most feared man im the sport. I'm 41 now.

Lately, I've lost interest in MMA. I quite dislike what the UFC has become.

And I have been pretty terribly treated by forum mods/admin recently.

So, goodbye it is. Have a good one champs.
I'm 41 as well was around during the greatest time in the sport when Fedor and Pride were at their height and actually began watching in 97, I can agree 100 000% about what your saying and sentiment around modern UFC it's more about hype and popularity than what it was intended to be and that's sad the younger fans don't have a clue of what is good and buy into all the UFC propaganda and it's eye rolling to observe, nowadays whoever is the most disrespectful and loudest is rewarded the rankings take a back seat to what the whiny fans want to see they say you just don't understand selling fights I say it was never needed before because the fights were so anticipated that was good enough now you have to have some serious drama and soap operaish narrative really pathetic.

It's become stale all about money and nothing else not that much excitement the roster is way too large and doesn't have to be, who wants to keep up with a hundred guys who are constantly changing, too many are trying to become social media personalities which is lame no one fucking cares what you think about politics just fight that's what made the fighters from 20 years or more ago mysterious and imo just better. The best thing that could happen is competition hopefully Japan which had more respect and just represented the martial arts better overall than what modern UFC has turned into that's my hope and I really believe it will happen like I already said UFC has become stale they have to rely on gimmicks BMF belt and other dumb shit the stars which I don't care about become irrelevant they have a 3 time cheat representing them that's awful imo and many other things as well.

Why not just take a break? I take mini breaks regularly and more recently took a rather long break from posting cause I was starting to feel burnt out. Now with UFC coming back this week I feel pretty refreshed, maybe try something similar? It might work for you too.

Yeah it was weird and no one even bothered to tell me why. I assume I was annoying the shit out of a mod or something.

I've thought about it. Too proud though.

Mayberry is one of the best places to post on this entire forum. You need to fight this shit and get back in. I know we always don't see eye to eye here, but you're one of the best posters on this entire forum. Would love to see you posing in Mayberry again.

As someone trying to make a comeback after a bit of a break - what’s the deal is it just matchup bullshit?
To be honest nothing has changed that much. The sport has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds. Its our perspective that has changed the most. As longtime fans we get really critical, just like any sports fans. When I worked at Goodwill for a year and talked to a bunch of 18-22 year old guys about UFC they were as pumped as we used to be for our newer days, about seeing Merab vs. OMalley for example, or Jiri, or even DDP

Thanks, Sherbro. I really appreciate that.

I'm 60.
I like watching the fights.
UFC puts on a lot of good fights every year.
It is the dream of every semi-pro mma fighter to get a ufc contract.

Yer a fucking whiner.
Prolly cheetoh eater.
And ghey.

Fuck off.
Nobody gives a fuck if you stay or go.

Bitch.
What's wrong with cheeto's? I like the spicy ones.

Sorry to see you go but 41??? You are just a baby!!!
Eh, people age differently. i had hemoroids, grey hair. and a buttload of health problems by 35. I'm almost ready to get back into diapers now and i buy worthers when i want candy. I feel like that qualifies me as old regardless of my age.
