I think we’ve all been feeling a certain kind of way about the direction of the product and the sport. It looks like the fire has burnt out inside Dana, no western stars with fan friendly styles, only eastern functionality remains.
Once Poatan goes I think the sport is in a really bad place unless they switch things up somehow. We didn’t know how good we had it before, now UFC answers to shareholders whereas before Dana would cater to the fans, now it’s about extending the marketability of fighters, no marquee PPV events due to the paramount deal so there’s no incentive to make a massive card.
With that said, fighting will always be an innate part of life. There’s always going to be people dreaming of glory under the biggest lights. It’s not about money for those guys, just about being seen.
If I was in charge I would immediately begin looking at ways to revise the ruleset. For me the unified ruleset is stale and the most succinct evidence of that was DDP vs Khamzat. Something has to change
