Hi guys, cleaned out a very disgusting basement, don't have pictures of the mess but this is what it looks like all cleaned out. Looking to build a nice place to practice martial arts.

This is what I have to work with. Decent sized room, 8 feet by 17 feet.

Stage 2!

Added a cheap heavybag! Ordered a 100 lb thai bag from ko fight gear! Can't wait unit that baby arrives. This will do for now! Brought down some of my equipment, as you can see i don't have much. That deflated antique speed bag (got it at a garage sale for 50 cents) is used for practicing jump knees and slipping. Got a mirror up. I quite like my Diego Maradona t-shirt, it looks like he's got his hands up to fight :)

Stage 3!!!

OK so I added two layers of carpet underlay for some shock absorption, the cheap puzzle mats i got from wal-mart were just not enough to roll around on the ground comfortably, but these two layers of underlay should help a little bit.

Then I added the puzzle mats, a very heavy mirror which I can't seem to find a stud to hang onto. So it goes on the dresser for now. My giant teddy bear will work as a temproary grappling dummy. Laugh all you want, I love that teddy bear it's so huge!

Next on the menu is a bench and a decent set of weights to get me going. I'd love to get a smith machine. Also I am gonna get a double end bag because they're so much fun. Maybe a speed bag. they're not really my thing but wutt he heck, if I can find one for cheap why not? Also I will get a medicine ball, and a big rubber ball, and a chin up bar is going up ASAP. Can't wait for my ko fight gear thai bag! that's gonna be sweet, if it's as good as it sounds to be, then I will also order the beast tear drop bag as well. Well hope you guys enjoyed seeing this so far. Will update when i get my bag and mirrors set up! The mat feels pretty good by the way. So far it stays in place, but kinda smells funny hehe.

Why on earth would you want a Smith machine?Best to go with a powerrack if you lifting heavy upon your own.

And your cat is a real attention whore BTW!

And as you do not seem to have much equipment ATM here are some siyes where you make it for mininmal outlay:

Making a sandbag for odd object lifting is worth it.Or you can make your own grappling dummy rather than use Big Ted....linkies are there.

Looks like the start of something good, keep at it.

not to steal the thread, but me and my buddies made this gym from scratch; it was old nuclear basement that we got for usage from city hall, and we cleaned it from seringes(yes, it was a crack house) and all other garbage, painted it and we are equping it (we are putting puzzle mats over the cardboard; its for BJJ) here are some photos..

P.S. any advice how to make it better is more than welcome!

putting carpet underlay on the ground even over the carboard works and seal it on with contact cement so it stays in place then put puzzel mats on top of that, the underlay will make the mats not slide all over the place.

Great space to work with though, keep us updated.

thanks, we are looking into that but we are on very limited budget(self-financed), room is 130 m2 and we still have to deal with heating and humidity issue!

yea a power rack would eb cool i saw a scaffold one i think on rosstraining, thanks for the links i thoguht smith machine and power rack was the same thing

that nuclear basement is fukin awesome! i would love to have a spot liek that i am so jealous! seriously! use the carpet underlay, it can be pricey though, another way to do something really amazing is to search for judo flooring systems, these guys use sheets of plywood with foam glued on the bottom then anotehr layed of plywood on top. then tatami mats on those, it makes such a nice looking springy surface!

Kick ass man!

You do not get more Rocky than that! That place will def have a "vibe" to it!

And also, congrats to you for reclaiming a part of your community. Reclaiming a piece of the community and turning it into something useful. All the best to you and please keep us updated!

Well done sir!

Looking good. I have a small gym in my current basement, and it was one of the best moves i could have made. It is not much, not very state of the art....but i get so much out of it

Best of luck to you...and please keep us updated!

I freaking love home gym threads. The one about Sherman MMA was the best though. Those dudes went all out!And to the dude with the fall out shelter, y'all better come up with an awesome name for that place. My suggestion is Bunker MMA (or BJJ or whatever you're doing there). Your motto could be, "Tap out or fall out."

That is AMAZING. That would literally be the coolest day of my life getting access to a space like that. Good work getting the usage rights from city hall too! Since you live in Croatia, you should contact Mirko about your project. Maybe he'd be interested in seeing your progress or hooking you up with a couple posters/gear.

Awesoem thread dudes, + huan and +juanita for the hoem gym and the nuke gym

been eyeing an old work-shop for a new dojo for the club, they are probably gonan kick us out from our current one
