When I first saw the Brock vs TBD teaser, I immediately thought it would be Fedor. But then the UFC itself advertised the Fedor vs Fabio Maldonado card which will happen on June 17th and be broadcast on their very own Fight Pass network. Like, Mike Goldberg plugged the event himself and said Fedor's name because he was trying to get people to tune in to the event. No way he'd do that if he didn't have the blessing from the production crew.
In my head, I was thinking "Damn! No way Fedor could fight at 200 that fast back to back! He'd have to deal with the mandatory commission medical suspensions after his fight!"
But then I thought more... Fight Nights Global 50, the card Fedor is headlining vs Maldonado, is being held in St. Petersberg, Russia. To my knowledge, since this fight would be happening outside the regulatory body, the medical suspension wouldn't apply, would it?
So the "TBD." In my opinion, Zuffa is holding out to see if Fedor wins vs. Maldonado. If he does, he'll fight Brock at 200 AND since they promoted Fedor on Fight Pass, UFC fans will get some pre-fight exposure to him.
If he loses, they can throw Hunt onto the card as a substitution.
Thoughts?
