Brock Lesnar NFL Highlights; "A-Level Athlete"?

His NFL combine statistics are better than J.J Watt's. He's clearly a superior athlete than most "A Level" NFL guys.

Terrible ball player though.

I don't know if that is entirely true, I think only his 40 time best watt.

I can't believe this is the first I've ever heard of him. Thanks for the link.
He's the example I usually use for a guy with minimal training coming in and being dominant in a short time.

Didn't JDS smoke him in the football based coaches challenge.

I think we understate how athletic some of the UFC HW division os

It's not possible for a non-American to be athletic enough to be an NFL player. If JDS was he would have moved to the US in high school so that he could make millions. Also Karelin got into wrestling because he knew he couldn't cut it in football. There's certainly no way an African discus thrower could be athletic enough.

Er, OK, so you agree that he's elite then. The rest is splitting hairs.

when it comes to the NFL it's all about splitting hairs because the competition is so tight. It's not like mma where a guy can win the HW title with no experience because the competition is weak.

The point is that Brock is an objectively great athlete to the extent that his athleticism alone caused a team to give him a chance despite his obvious inexperience in football. Are there better athletes in the NFL than Brock? Sure, several. But not many. It's telling that you had to compare him to Bo Jackson, arguably one of the very best pure athletes ever, to make Brock seem normal.

I'm not even a Brock fan, and never root for him to win MMA fights, but he's very probably the best athlete to ever fight in MMA.

It's not telling at all that I compared him to Bo Jackson. It would be telling if I compared him favorably to Bo Jackson, which I didn't.

Yes, it is. When your argument is, "Yeah, well Bo Jackson is better than him" you are essentially admitting that only the very best athletes ever are significantly more athletic than Brock Lesnar.

Sage is a better athlete than Brock.

Lol.

At this point it seems clear we both agree that Brock is
a) an elite athlete in NFL terms (though of course not an elite football player)
and
b) one of the best athletes ever in MMA

A Level Athlete =/= Professional Football Player

So basically you're agreeing with me. Brock is a top level athlete but not special by NFL standards and he's a top level athlete in mma but not the greatest athlete in mma.

michael jordan failing at baseball didn't make him a B-level athlete or anything - the football thing with brock looked like pretty much the same sort of situation.

he's obviously a special athlete. no football experience and made the nfl, no mma experience and won a belt.

Wow, you're a pretty negative guy. Brock is definitely special in NFL terms, though not unique He's a good enough athlete that a team gave him a chance with no college experience, which is exceptional. Also, I think he probably was the greatest athlete in MMA history; I was just trying to find a point at which we could reasonably agree.

I don't like Brock Lesnar, but he is an objectively impressive athletic specimen. I don't see what good it does anyone to deny that.

I agree. He's impressively athletic in mma. I disagree that he's the greatest athlete in mma history. I don't believe he's the greatest HW athlete in mma, much less the greatest ever. Fedor was a better athlete than Brock.

However athetic ability isn't end be all when comes to fighting you have to have natural talent, technique, skills, toughness, solid chin and be able to react when getting hit.
