I think he is Legit. I don't think he is too nice. What do you think? I first saw Ortega against Diego Brandao and man was I shocked. His Jiu Jitsu was so smooth it was unreal. I started researching the guy and I have followed him since then and I really do think he is legit. The only issue was his stand up game but he only gets better with his stand up each fight. Lets not forget this guy has been fighting in everyday life since he was a young kid and I remember somebody once say (who I can't remember) but was somebody high up in MMA that Ortega is just as tough if not more tough than the Diaz Brothers. It sounds far fetched now but give it time and I think people with realise that.

His Jiu Jitsu is so on another level its crazy. You can never let this guy get a hold of you or it could be game over but now that his stand up is better and can hurt you he is even more dangerous.

I think his Nice guy thing is just the result of him trying to be a better person because I am sure he would also admit that he was a bit of a dick in his early life and I feel he had enough shit times that he wants to become a better person. Remember Ortega was a gang-banger and for a period of time almost every couple of weeks his homies were being killed or sent to prison so I think he realised that the life he was leading was going to come to a bad end.

Also Rener Gracie is a massive reason and influence on Ortega and why a lot of people are surprised when they find out how rough his past was and how good a person he is today.

Just throwing my thoughts out there, thanks for taking the time to read.

IMO there is nothing scarier than a nice guy who thinks God is on his side.

Good post.

I like Ortega.

When he was talking with rener about when he caught Frankie with the elbow and how excited he got... Legit scary dude

His 'nice guy thing' is great if it is real (i believe it is) but will become corny and unpalatable if it becomes the main focus of who he is. It looks like Dana and Co. is definitely trying to push this 'MMA Jesus' narrative as much as possible - I hope Ortega does not fall for the temptation to turn his personality into 'a brand' and risk becoming a weird marketing parody of himself.
Dana does seem to love caricatures so it's a legit concern that this will be attempted.
Think Ortega is for real, though, and strong enough to decide for himself. Life is long and Dana's loyalties only lasts so long.
Great op, btw.

His legitimacy is no longer in question. And it is refreshing to see a fighter that is humble and respectful instead of a guy trying to go full WWE and running his mouth to sell his fights which unfortunately is where the sport is heading.

Clicked the thread expecting some Sherdog psychological analysis on how Ortega is fake and whatnot.

Was pleasant surprised.

I'm on the Ortega bandwagon as a fighter and person.
He is legit and sincere.
Anyone remember jones pretending to be humble and thanking god when he first started? Pure acting. PR stunt.
Ortega is legit

Good guy he is. Messed up in the past and owned up and is now focusing on doing well and making the world a better place. Have to respect that all the way.

Not trying to be a dick, but are we talking about a legit fighter (which he obviously is), or legit as in: not too nice? And in case of the last one, how is being nice not legit?

<{vega}>

WTF is "Too Nice"?
He's a fighter, not a sales representative.
Lyoto Machida was as "nice" and respectful as possible, yet he plowed through 15 fighters in a row to get that UFC belt. What does it matter?

If Ortega becomes champion you can add one more good guy none shit talker to the list, It'll be Rose and Ortega. Just need a few more to fall. HA

His talent and finishing instincts are undeniable.
This is competition, and there is nothing untenable about being both a nice guy outside the cage and a 'killer' within.

The thing is that Ortega is trying to be a good guy but he might "slip" at some point but that doesn't mean he is fake he has the "gang" mentality still but now a days he tries to channel it and use it properly. I am more impressed with him trying to be a good guy than actually being a good guy because he learned to be a good guy through experience of being a bad guy but I bet that animal is still knocking at the door on a regular basis.
