This same logic can be applied to taxes in general, but I somehow doubt you are an anarchist.

Elizabeth Hurley posted this yesterday to encourage Britons to come out and vote. Don't disappoint her, lads!

And that's the way it should be. Cast your vote, and live with the outcome. Kudos to her.

British Conservative Andrew Percy is speaking on CBC right now. He made an excellent point that the left tried to turn this into a Moral vs. Intolerance issue where staying in means you are morally superior and if you want to leave you are racist and intolerant.

I'm sure they'll stay. People don't like to rock the boat. The Scots have been bitching about independence for centuries and when they finally got a vote, it turned out to be bluster and they voted to stay.

My hopes for an Anglo Union will not be realized.

European cities are flying the Union Jack to convince Britain to stay:

Madrid's City Hall was illuminated in red, white and blue:

In Warsaw, the Union flag was projected onto the side of the Palace of Culture building:

In Vienna, a huge Union Jack was projected onto the side of the MuseumsQuartier:

In Florence, Michelangelo's David was wearing a jaunty new outfit:

Back in London, a bunch of Parisians tried to give out croissants at Kings Cross station ("Operation Croissant") to persuade waverers to vote Remain.

Unfortunately...

The Electoral Commission said Operation Croissant was illegal under a law that prevents the use of food, drink or entertainment to influence voting.

The croissants were baked in Paris on Wednesday morning and transported to London on the first Eurostar train of the day. But the plan to give them out to commuters was thwarted when police intervened.

They were forced to give out cards instead.

LOL a Polish guy begging the Brits to stay. Shameless.

I'm sure he cares about the best interest of the British people and not about allowing hundreds of thousands more of his countrymen to move to the UK without impediment due to free movement between EU member countries.

And now, something light-hearted in the news to bring up the mood on voting day :D
Croissant the line?
Arcane British law foils Paris girls' plan to hand out pastry to London voters

Group of friends behind ‘Operation Croissant’ told by Met homicide unit it is illegal to give pastry to London voters

An arcane British electoral law has thwarted an attempt by Parisians to hand out croissants with pro-EU messages to London voters.

A group of friends from France and the UK had planned to give out 600 croissants to commuters outside King’s Cross station on Wednesday, accompanied by postcards carrying pro-EU messages written by people in France.

But the Electoral Commission said Operation Croissant was illegal under a law that prevents the use of food, drink or entertainment to influence voting.

The croissants were baked in Paris on Wednesday morning and transported to London on the first Eurostar train of the day. But the plan to give them out to commuters was thwarted when police intervened.

A statement from the organisers said they had never intended to “buy” votes:

“It was conceived as an act of friendship, proximity and goodwill – an act of breaking bread.

“Unfortunately, as we discovered today, when we were contacted by the Metropolitan police homicide and major crimes command, we cannot do that. We were unaware that mixing ‘meat, drink, entertainment’ with a message of any kind before an election can be an infraction of the law – this is totally at odds with the gesture we wanted to show, so have adapted our plans accordingly.

“While it was never our aim to buy votes with croissants, we are happy to fall on our baguettes and stick to the right side of British law.”

Giving food or drink to people to influence their vote – “treating”, as it is known – used to be common in the 19th century. It was outlawed in the Corrupt and Illegal Practices Act of 1883 and has been included in electoral fraud legislation since then.

Current guidelines state: “A person is guilty of treating if either before, during or after a referendum they directly or indirectly give or provide any food, drink, entertainment or provision to corruptly influence any voter to vote or refrain from voting. Treating requires a corrupt intent – it does not apply to ordinary hospitality.”

The Operation Croissant organisers gave out postcards as planned. Messages ranged from the meaningful (“Let us keep together to fight for human rights, such as freedom of movement and freedom of speech”) to the funny (“There are not enough croissants in France to express how much we love you guys!”).

The croissants were donated to a homeless shelter.

I don't think anybody ever claimed that they had Britain's best interests in mind when they begged them to stay. EU will lose a big spender if UK calls it a day, and the developing EU countries will take a hit since they can no longer put their hand in UK's pocket.

Personally, I would've hoped that Britain remains as part of EU, on the condition that EU will cease its "European integration" process and remain only a loose trade union. It would've been better for everybody involved. I believe the British people would not oppose such a thing.

I believe that Europe does need some form of unity and cooperation in order to remain competitive with other continents. But we do not need a United States of Europe, and that is what EU has been turning into.

At the very least this should spark policy reform.

Have it a trade union only and let countries have their own, complete autonomy over immigration or refugees. If the EU was completely comprised of West European nations (excluding some) and they did not go delusional with the welcoming of middle easterners - england would have no issues.

Well, the "with love xoxoxo" and British flag gives the impression he wants the UK in the EU because of some fraternal feelings. In fact it has nothing to do with love and everything to do with money and access to better paying jobs.

I'm sure he loves the money and the access to better paying jobs. I'm not sure if the Brits do, but I'm pretty sure that the Polish do. EU is the greatest thing that ever happened to them.
