breaking the rules in fights this close makes the ufc look incompetent

The eye poke completely changed the fight. Jones was on his way to losing 2 rounds in a row, so he poked.

Bullshit! DC was still hitting him with everything after the poke.

I haven't heard anything about this rule in a long time so some of my facts may be sketchy, but:

In the NHL you are permitted a certain amount of curve on the blade of your stick.

I hear there's a similar rule in pornography.

I agree but what can you do? People like us complain about it all the time and nothing ever gets done about it. If the referees would just deduct points if a foul happens instead of giving out these stupid ass warnings the cheating would stop instantly.

This stuff happens in pretty much every UFC card now. It's not accidental. Fighters know the refs won't do shit and are exploiting it.

yep... and the stalling strategies are just blatant now.

Refs aint doing shit. 10 minutes of hugging and nothing.

Hendricks was practically licking lawlers balls, thats how far his head was down his lap hiding while stalling

Two points to make, feel free to flame but please do quote or @ me so I know to respond properly. I don't post often and would rather either respond intelligently to a well made argument or personally deny a troll its food.

The first and foremost is that anyone who has a long reach leads with the fingers. In boxing this is never an issue due to glove style. In MMA a good deal of traditional martial arts range finding is limited or risky due to eye pokes. Even wrestling. First hand I've had matches stopped for that reason. When you have a 10" range or more or less every opponent, while I don't forgive not correcting it, I understand it. And the rules say he gets a minimum of one warning unless they want a doctor. Cormier denied doctor assistance. I won't get further into the rules.

The second is an old phrase every coach has preached. If you're not cheating you're not trying to win. It's dirty, I hate it, but it's true. If you play nice, if you play fair, you're at a disadvantage. Cormier bitched about obliek(sp?) kicks prior to the fight but threw them a noticeable amount tonight. Couture damn near pioneered he shoulder checks that helped JBJ win tonight and was a right bastard with foot stomps, you think he didn't do that in a more subtle form when he wrestled? It's gamesmanship, and it's an artform. The best do it in magnificent ways, the rest just do it.

Yeah... 'cause no one ever got away with holding in the SuperBowl...

I don't think the eye poke would have changed the outcome but I think he needs to start getting called on it.

I read an article where a fighter basically said you'd be an idiot if you didn't take your free fouls in an important fight, so yeah, we're going to see them.

Every event pretty much you see a guy take a full on punt to the groin.

It's always assumed to be unintentional, yet I don't think we've ever seen a female fighter do the same thing. Despite the low standard of striking women never seem to misplace inside leg kicks that badly.

I think Jones ought to have had a point deducted for eyepoking instead of being given a remedial lesson in how to keep his fingers out of his opponent's face.

1. It would not have changed the outcome.
2. If you let every little thing bother you, every sport quickly becomes unwatchable.

i think so too. dc would have won

you say that like people in the NFL/NBA have never ever bent the rules...

If you watch NFL of NHL you can see there being penalty related incidents nearly every play or every shift for hockey, the refs however need to manage the game flow and don't call most infractions unless blatant.

Hell in the NFL now even the refs are cheating, calling pass interference against Dallas and then picking the flag up??? Wasn't that some BS...
