So whats the reason an interim title is created? I dont have a big issue with this fight, in the end neither guy is getting the title fight over Tsarukyan...are they fighting for the Undisputed/Full title?

If it's an interim title they for sure are getting the title fight over Arman.

They were told to put Pimblett in the generic "UFC on Paramount" promos. Everyone assumed it was for him fighting Topuria. But it looks like with Topuria opting to sit out for another few months that Gaethje gets an interim title shot. Topuria wants the 170lbs fight for a big card and maybe even waiting for the White House card whenever that is.

From a business perspective, it makes sense.

It does considering they'll be lucky to get many more fights out of Justin, especially if they're not big fights, and feeding Paddy to either Topuria or Arman is just going to get him hurt and have his star power take a hit.

That said, Paddy's star power might take a hit anyway. Good chance Justin beats the piss out of him lol.

I already posted about this, this doesnt mean the winner goes first, this wouldnt be a first for the UFC, in the end the titles belong to the promotion...making them promotional tools, whats an interim title? the same thing, another promotional tool created by the promotion, Aspinall was Interim champion and im not sure if he even had a defense before Jones vs Stipe happened for the full title, Pimblett and Gaethje can fight for the interim title, no problem.

EDIT: Aspinall did in fact defend the Interim title before Jones came back to fight Stipe, they never fought.

It doesn’t. Neither Gaethje or Paddy are stars. There are no stars left, …, Paddy, Gaethje, ilia are all widgets . Swap them in whatever combination you want and the economic impact on Endevor will be negligible.

Interesting take considering how beloved Gaethje is by the just bleed fanbase.
Since he’d only fight for a belt, that’d satisfy him and also give Paddy a chance to not only solidify his star power (since the Brits love him) but also set up a “champ vs champ grudge match” which is about as big of a fight as one can make.

Well, probably, still, they have gone in different routes when it comes to Interim titles and unification fights, its all im saying, slapping an interim title for this fight makes it "PPV worthy" and of course fighters are also happy they get better pay and potential earnings from the IC.
