So, I've had 2 different audio issues with this movie and the subtitles made one more confusing.....or is it?

When William goes to fetch his wife in the rain, I thought they keep saying to each other was "Norther now." The subtitles, I think, say "No the now." If I remembered that right, is this a Scottish thing?

Also, in his motivational speech, I always heard "they can take our WIVES..." But its "they can take our LIVES..." For the longest time, I said wives, despite the subtitles. However, he was just talking about living and dying.

A leg gets chopped off.
Horses get stabbed.
Someone loses a head.
An old fart gets an arrow to his chest and keeps fighting.
A woman had her throat slit.
A king kills his own men with arrows to kill the opposing force.
Same old guy with that arrow survives then fights again, loses a hand, and fights again.

Its one of the most obvious examples of that mid 90's self important shmaltz period of Hollywood for me, its neither pulpy enough to be really fun(outside of a few battle scenes and Longshanks) nore serious enough to carry any real weight.

I remember thinking it was at least very good but I'd have to watch it again to rate it.

It was very entertaining. But the horrible inaccuracies and terrible execution of accents really takes it down a few notches. I gave it an 8 since it managed to still keep pulling me back in with its powerful emotions, imagery, and score.

Watched this on 4k blu ray recently and it still holds up.

I think I appreciate this movie even more now. Real sets and location, No cgi - real extras. If they made this today, most of it would be sfx.

James Horner’s score is also awesome. I accepted it that it’s not historically accurate but it’s on my favorite flick. Mel Gibson is a great director.
