Ank by tko ground and pound first round it wont be competitive at all
Which would suck. I'm going to have a hard time assessing Poatan's legacy one day if he doesn't face at least one competent grappler before retiring.Ank won't wrestle early as much as his backers hope imo. He won't want to deplete his gas tank, and I think he trusts his striking.
Not too many of them exist, and the ones that do typically don't get signed by the UFC.Which would suck. I'm going to have a hard time assessing Poatan's legacy one day if he doesn't face at least one competent grappler before retiring.
Liddell was kind of similar at LHW. He mostly fought grapplers suited for his style (striking with strong TDD and ability to get back to his feet when down) until he got old and lost his belt and chin. But at least Liddell fought Belfort and a few other good strikers when he was younger. And he beat Wand before the final nosedive of his career.
Poatan hasn't fought a high-level grappler at MW or LHW, before or after becoming champ.
Yeah, not any more. There used to be a lot wrestlers, though, and all the ones at LHW were American except maybe the Janitor. I'm not sure why there's been so little interest in MMA for 185+ pound wrestlers in the last decade or so.Not too many of them exist, and the ones that do typically don't get signed by the UFC.

And the fact, like I said earlier, that wrestlers (especially Americans) have pretty much abandoned the heavier weight classes with a few exceptions. It wasn't that long ago that you could find 2 to 5 wrestlers in the LHW Top 10 (some combination of Couture, Tito, Rashad Evans, Jones, Phil Davis, Bader, Cormier and Corey Anderson, depending on the year between around 2002 to 2017).You're not wrong...but a lot of that is due to how those divisions currently are constructed.
