Media Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn on the UFC "The problem is with UFC, I feel like they always want the brand to be bigger than that of the fighter"

If this was a few years back I'd have 100% agreed with you but boxing (mainly thanks to the shiekh) has seen a resurgence of quality fights recently.

The UFC has started to go the other way in the quality of its fights. The problem with fully putting brand first, is the Apex slop they've been serving up, with the expectation that you should enjoy it just because it's officially UFC branded.

Also, what's been happening with Jon and Aspinall is about as bad as anything that's occured in boxing.

i don't count what the Sheikh does as "boxing" in that it's part of the sport. the Sheikh is an entity onto himself. i say that because people thought PFL was going to do something but once Sheikh pulled out PFL went back to shit tier. once the Sheikh has had his fill of boxing, it'll go back to what it always was.

the Jon Jones thing is an absolute embarrassment for the UFC and a travesty. but boxing routinely has guys who stall like that too, look at Floyd vs Pacquiao. they also routinely have champs/stars that duck people all the time, not just one guy like Jon Jones, it's basically baked into the sport that once you start becoming the A side do not take fights unless you can drain the opponent with weight tactics, change the glove size and ring size to give yourself an advantage, move the event to a favorable timezone, freely shoot steroids and then if you get caught, just pull out of the fight before to escape suspension (Canelo did this tactic vs GGG). it's hilarious, and yes Jon Jones has done some of this stuff, but he's just ONE guy, like i said lots of routinely do ALL of this shit.

UFC for quality fights is going down, but UFC seems to be doing better than ever no matter what sherdog says through their anecdotal evidence. the corruption of boxing as a sport is INSANE, referees, judges, athletic commissions all on the take. to me, the Margarito plaster of Paris shit is far beyond anything that has happened in the UFC. the fact that he was allowed to fight and not prosecuted for felony battery is mind blowing to me. that's how guys get KILLED in boxing, and he isn't even the first guy to do that kind of absolute coward shit. and that's just ONE thing. they constantly have controversies because of dumb fuck referees, nobody obeying the rules or casually breaking them for the superstar, it's fucking disgusting to me and that's why i rarely watch it even though i love boxing as a martial art.

tl/dr: UFC is definitely shittier than it was, but boxing is a damn cesspool.

While this is true, boxing has the opposite problem where the sport is fragmented and top guys won't fight each other

<Fedor23>

Is it even true that MMA doesn't have this problem now though?

Jones refusing to fight Aspinall.
Islam refusing to fight Topuria.
Merab having to fight O'Malley again.

That's also the reason why the UFC is successful and will survive. How many boxing "promotions" have come and gone when they are promoting a handful of fighters?

This is not a problem,
it is the best option to try to make the fights happen.

UFC is the McDonald's of the fighting world , and fighters are paid in a similar way.
