Boxing Gloves vs MMA Gloves

Why wasn't Ngannou able to take punches like nothing from boxing "pillow" gloves?
Ngannou was known for having a granite chin when hit by MMA "baby" gloves.
I was always told by MMA experts that the only reason MMA fighters appeared to have weak chins was because MMA gloves created more power somehow.
Is this another very convenient MMA myth getting exposed?
P = F*v

Was he, though?

When it comes to his UFC fights, he generally just hit his opponents before they hit him and they went down.

Before he KOd Stipe, he got caught with like a short shot and was clearly wobbled, but just swung again as Stipe moved in and caught him.

a main and overlooked fact is the defense of boxers is better, thats why there are so many KO's in MMA as opposed to boxing, when defense is poor you get more KO's, its not the glove, its the fighter.

Boxers/Kickboxers have better defense because it's easier for them.

In MMA the gloves are smaller. They slip through guards easier than in bigger gloves. If boxers were using MMA gloves they'd be getting more KOs for sure.

And boxers only have to worry about punches. Yes, there's lots of ways punches can be setup, but in MMA you have to worry about all that, the smaller gloves getting through, and you have to worry about kicks, elbows, clinch attacks, attacks to the legs, and takedowns.

This is why there's so much more range management in MMA. None of these MMA fighters want to stay at the range boxers and Kickboxers do because they know they're going to have a way harder time of it and are gonna get caught way easier.

Well said, as you could see how wel Gohkan Saki did in the UFC..

Have you ever been punched by someone wearing a boxing glove? You don't notice that they are wearing a glove at all. It feels completely solid.

The only time I ever saw Francis hit hard in MMA was in the Stipe rematch. Stipe is a lot smaller and I think he was moving backward when he landed.

Boxers are better at putting their weight into their punches and the gloves cover your entire face. But mma gloves I think do add more power which is why more 1 punch KOs happen in mma than boxing

We’ve also never seen Ngannou get hit flush besides when Stipe stumbled him a couple times so maybe his chin isn’t that good

Boxing gloves do dissipate a bit of the impact when compared to mma gloves. And boxing gloves do provide more coverage for defensive purposes. But that doesn't mean you can take a direct shot to the jaw from a 250 pound powerhouse like Anthony Joshua.

Francis doesn't have a bad chin. He has novice defensive principles.
Thing is he’s rarely been hit flush so we don’t know how good his chin in. People act like he chin was tested in mma when it wasn’t. Stipe wobbled him and that’s literally the best punch landed on him until last night

Stipe was 230 and moving backward. And yeah I always found it strange people commended his chin so much when he was never hit by a better shot than this. After last night it's evident he doesn't have the Roy Nelson chin people hyped him up to have.

If AJ was in MMA gloves and landing the same way he'd be killing people

The pillow fists comments are from fucking retards who never boxed a day in their lives

It hurts getting hit 12oz gloves, I can ensure you the 8 and 10oz pillows will do damage

Gloves are to protect the hands and facial cuts, but mostly hands. The extra padding which his hard actually causes the brain to rattle more

Ngannou is a beast of a man, didn't find getting hit with pillows last night to be much fun

It’s unbelievable how many people have never put on a pair of gloves.

Boxing gloves have the same amount of padding in the knuckle area as MMA gloves. If the boxinc glove is a horse hair glove, guess what? It has even LESS padding in the knuckle area than an MMA glove.

What are we doing here.

It depends, a feather duster type guy will have more hurtful punches in smaller gloves. But a monster puncher will do better in boxing gloves with heavy wrapping as he'd break his hand easily in MMA gloves if he punches with full power.

Lol any human being would have gotten KOed by the punches Ngannou got hit with yesterday.. The reason Ngannou got KOed isn't because his chin isn't good. It's because he is a MMA fighter and he fought a power punching boxer in boxing.

In the 1st Stipe fight he got hit many times with big punches and it didn't face him at all.

In the Rozenstruik fight he literally RAN forward into a hook right on the chin from Rozenstruik and it didn't do shit to him. Any other guy runs into it like that and they go night night.

Lol there are pillow punchers in boxing too.. Punching power is not as simple as " being a boxer ". Otherwise Fury should have done what Joshua did tonight because Fury is known as a better boxer than Joshua..

Mayweather wouldn't hit any harder with 4 oz gloves on or Paulie Malignaggi
Fury was an idiot who took the fight as a joke and almost paid dearly for it. Fury should have not clowned around focused on his camp and wiped Ngannou out early on.
