I'm just going off Paulo Costa's public statements. He's posted that he's fighting as replacement for a top 5 fighter.

Paulo offered only for 3 rounds. He refused 5 rounds which is the same that refusing the fight altogether because it is a fucking main event.

Costa vs Marvin V was a good fight though and Costa decisively won the 5th round with forward pressure and more significant strikes. The myth that Costa can’t go 5 hard is just that. That fallacy about his cardio stems from the Luke fight at elevation where quite literally every single fighter barring Merab gassed hard on the card…including Aldo.

Not taking a 5 rounder and wanting it to be 3 when out of camp and 5 round shape isn’t a crazy ask imo. I don’t consider it “ducking” they are prize fighters and shit like only being in 3 round shape for a 5 rounder drastically affects your future value.
