Books you're reading now

Fav author out there. Hero's is the best book I've ever read. You like wheel of time and stormlight?
I’m always a bit ashamed that I’ve not read Wheel Of Time, but it feels like it would be a big project with the number of books involved, I can be a lazy reader at times-one of the things I love about Joe Abercrombie is how he can tell an epic story in a relatively short space of time.

The original First Law triology is my favourite, but Heroes isn’t far behind, as a stand-alone fantasy book I’ve never read better.

I’m not familiar with Stormlight, is it worth a look?

Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson, may be the most/def has the potential to be the best fantasy saga ever created. It's pure Genius. I'm envious of his creativity. The only reason I like First Law better is because Stormlight is equivalent to Lord of the Rings, its a little more PG13. First Law is rated R and has no hero's or villans, only areas of gray, which I find fascinating. Because the villans in history are always the losers. If they won, the roles would have been reversed. Wheel of Time is a different beast entirely, I was hooked after book one and finished all 14 in 3 months lol. Again, it's more pg 13, but its LOTR on steroids. So pissed HBO and Martin royally messed up GOT, that would have been my all time fav, but it was so butchered, and winds of winter is so delayed I wont even touch it now. Abercrombie is the hope to Martin's redemption

Say one thing for Logan Ninefingers, say he's a phenomenal character lolol

Yeah, I’ve lost faith in GRRM ever bringing Game of Thrones to a conclusion, it’s a real shame, starting the tv series before the books were finished was the kiss of death.

I don’t have a problem with PG13 fantasy, but I find R so much more interesting and Abercrombie does it better than anyone for me. I can’t wait to see where the new trilogy goes.

The Unchained Man by Caleb Jones and The Book of Five Rings.

Don't get me wrong pg 13 doesn't make them any less phenomenal. In life the good guys finish last sometimes, I appreciate the different approach of Martin and Joe. The craziest moment of my life came when reading storm of swords, I legit was so pissed, shocked, couldn't believe I just read the Red Wedding, that I put it down for 3 months haha. Jordan pumped out a much better, much more descriptive, longer storyline than Martin with longer books, yet produced a pace of a 5 to 1 ratio in between releases than Martin. The fact the asshole even released Blood and Fire before WInds of Winter was a slap in the face. I still read it immediately though haha. Pick up stormlight archive, book one is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, thank me later

Sound, I’ll check it out!

You have to be realistic about these things...
Glotka might actually be the greatest character ever created, has a run at Tyrion. I identify with Jezal the most. Serious question, have you figured out who the protagonist in First Law is yet? I can't

I think you can make a solid argument that it doesn’t have one, if it does I’d lean towards Logan, I don’t think it’s by accident that it starts and finishes with him.

I need some help sherdog, my brother in law is in the airforce, going through tech school and wanted to send him some books to read. Because of the quarantine they aren't allowed to do much. He said that he likes Military history, but also wouldn't mind novels that are set around WW2. I am completely out of my depth because I only really read Sci-fi or horror novels. Can anyone recommend anything like this? I know he mentioned that he read Catch-22, but other than that, any suggestions would be welcome, thank you.

He also mentioned that he likes high fantasy novels, so if you don't have any military recommendations, I'll take those too.

I loved Snow Crash and followed it up with The Diamond Age - I couldn't believe how dull and dry a book it was by comparison. No doubt in terms of ideas and concepts it was as interesting as Snow Crash, it just didn't have anything like the same charisma. I've wanted to read more of his work like Reamde but it's very low priority
I just bought an autographed copy of Fall; or Dodge in Hell (it was the same price as the one without an autograph--should've been a red flag). Got a third of the way through it and gave the fucking thing away. What a self-absorbed twit. While I don't necessarily disagree with much of his political bent, I don't want to read his ham-fisted account of how the world works. If I wanted that much smoke blown up my ass I'd read the NT Times.
