Chile is famous for being the experiment of the Chicago boys, but economy isn’t magic, you cannot expect to turn a shitehole like Chile was in allendes time to a powerhouse in a short period of time. You dont need to be an eternal dictator to stave off communism, Pinochet didnt believed in democracy at all, he thought the people would choose communism all the time, so that he needed to rule with an iron fist, but that shit is bad for business.

AMLO is a lot closer to Trump or Bolsonaro in the sense that he sells the "good old days" he is socially conservative but economically leftist (import substitution and the such).
