Boiler Room (2000)

Definitely one of my favorite movies from that decade. I used to work in an inbound call center doing sales and my friends and I would watch it at least once a week before work.

Right on. I've worked in a few call centers as well, though never in sales. I've always done tech support. Boiler Room actually made me want to get into sales though, and then I did and didn't make shit for money. Maybe I was in the wrong area, I dunno. Or maybe I'm just a shitty salesman.

Love it

Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't fucking have any.

Was one of my favorite movies back when I was a finance major and thought investment banking is what I wanted to wind up in. Such a great quote-worth movie and the movie that the book Wolf of Wallstreet was originally made to be.

I watched the wolf of Wall Street the other day for the first time. I seriously think there were some scenes they completely ripped off of boiler room. I even remember thinking for a long time that the wolf of Wall Street was a remake of something until halfway through the movie I remembered that I was thinking of boiler room.

Great movie, one of my favourites. Up there with Glengarry Glen Ross in terms of sales movies.

Amazing they got that quality of cast with that small budget.

Great movie overall. It was The Wolf Of Wallstreet before The Wolf Of Wallstreet.

Great movie. When I was going to job interviews, I'd watch 20 minutes of Boiler Room before going to each interview - I nailed every one of them. Had my pick of which one to take.

It's one of my favorite movies. It pays homage to great movies like Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross.

Agreed. This is the movie that really put him on the map for me. And while he's definitely had a great career, I have to admit I'm a little disappointed that he didn't break out just a bit more than he did.

You should check out SubUrbia if you haven't seen it. Not a similar movie, but it has both Giovanni Ribisi and Nicky Katt in it. Giovanni shouldn't have done that Dads TV show... That had to hurt his career, though he had a memorable role in Ted.

Pretty much. And I would take Boiler Room over Wolf of Wallstreet any day of the week.

And that's not to say that Wolf of Wallstreet is a bad movie. It's awesome. But just not as good as Boiler Room.

That's a good story. The kind of shit I like to hear.

The funny thing about Boiler Room is that there's some shit that is clearly fucking atrocious--the whole main thrust of the movie really, basically stealing money from people--and yet it's still inspiring in some sense.

I'll have to look into SubUrbia. And I've never even heard of Dads.

Movies like this actually show that Vin Diesel can be a really good actor. I love the F&F movies like no one else. But it's nice to see him play different characters occasionally like in this movie, Saving Private Ryan and so on.

It's the Glengarry Glen Ross for Generation X/Y.

Really enjoy the movie, ending falls flat but first 3/4 of the movie is top notch.

Plus any movie that starts off quoting Biggie Smalls gets love from me. Solid 8 out 10.

Could not agree more. Not great, but never less than watchable. And like the OP said, the cast is ridiculous.

Even Batflick has a small role!:icon_chee
