Bobby Knuckle's jaw: not a dislocation but bilateral parasymphyseal fractures

RDA had a titanium plate and screws put in after his jaw broke against guida, came back, went on a run and took the belt.
They’re also professional fighters, I was a gym warrior lol. Money could have changed my mind too

to be fair the submission khamzat landed is pretty rare and was probably related to an earlier fracture from sparring

Khamzat is fucking monster tho, and im not trying to take away from him even though I just kinda did lol

Im just saying this is Emma and had Whittaker survived till the later round who know what woulda happened
He would had been hurt and tired, if he survived the 1st round onslaught where he had to scramble like crazy. He had to carry his weight in sequences, it would be a completely different fight to what he's used to. If he doesn't survive round 1, his chance of winning is 0. If he survived to round 2x maybe he had 25-30% chance of winning, since he'd likely be down 10-8, and Rob (with all due respect) doesn't have a lot of finishes, especially after round 1 or 2.

Nah man, absolutely joking about the medical terminology being made up 🤣

Sorry I should have clarified!
I would give the caveat that I'm making a diagnosis off a picture of a picture on a cell phone, but if the teeth were only dislocated they wouldn't displace en bloc like that (like a lego piece instead of kernels of corn).

His chin, both literally and in the sense of being able to take a punch, will never be the same.

I suspect Bobby's fight camp will conceal the extent of the injury so his next opponent doesn't target it.

He is one of my favorite all time fighters. Unforgiving sport.
haha I get it all now.

Thx guys

sorry I am slow and hung over

Whittaker seemed a bit overconfident before this fight. Not only did he call for the Khamzat fight. He was convinced that he would knock him out. Said it in a few interviews.
Well I’m pretty sure he assumed this would mostly be a striking affair. And clearly Khamzat had no taste for that as he immediately went for th tdd right to start. And kept going with the grappling. Had it been a mainly striking affair rob would have probably been right.

No one in their right mind would ever assume a fight with Khamzat frickin Chimaev is going to be mostly a striking affair.

The problem is Kamzat shoots from like halfway across the cage and has those Mr. Fantastic stretch arms.

It's like a bizarre video game where you think you're out of the final boss's reach and then all of sudden he reaches across from the other side of a football field and your ass is in the air going down on a double.

No wonder Til stopped working out with him.

Wasn't very smart by Hamzat. This will only make people fear him more and make getting fights even more difficult.

I kid

His interviews leading into it were big on him taking the later rounds, leaning into the gameplan of surviving early and pushing the pace when Khamzat's tired
It can work, but Khamzat still is a huge threat in round one. IMO you gotta find something to make him worry about, make him hesitant or else he'll have his way and look for finishing opportunities which seems to come naturally to him

Honestly while watching, I thought that even if Rob got up he'd get clipped due to how great of a takedown threat Khamzat established at the start. My initial prediction was something like that, Khamzat makes worry for the takedown, uses it to open up the striking for a finish

he will likely be out for an entire year. Dont think we will see him before 2026

One of the few cases where someone's jaw litterally gets cracked. Don't know how he'll be able to take a punch again without that thing opening back-up.
Well... when RDA broke his jaw vs Clay Guida (iirc) he had it repaired I think with titanium and then went on to become LW champion

and has had a well above average chin, having had 30 fights since breaking his jaw, at one of the highest strength of schedule in MMA history and only being koed twice

Tbh, having a literal titanium jaw, almost sounds like it'd be a performance enhancer.

Does he fully recover ? For normal life.
Was it from a squeeze or gnp shot ? The finish choke was like 1 second.

Yikes. Could this be a career ender?
At this point of his career, as a fan I would hope so.
Can't imagine the mental strength he'll have to endure recovering and taking hits and his psyche about if his chin can stand being KO'd.
You hate when good guys end up with random shit like this. Imagine his family watching, if some are uncomfortable seeing it, think of them lol, that's fucked.
