How so? Masvidal can counter-wrestle the best of the division. Khabilov, who has more threatening TDs and clinch game than Green, struggled mightily in employing his wrestling against him, even though Masvidal had to respect the level changes.
I think Masvidal can cut off Green, clinch with him, but he's really hesitant sometimes and doesn't punish when some of the openings are there (kind of like Mousasi, who's great at cutting off, but didn't punish Machida much when he did). It's a constant theme at this point. Masvidal has great kicks, so that would serve him well here, especially to set up his punches which he struggles with at times. He has problems transitioning his striking, it's either he defends or he's on the offensive side, which Green could definitely take advantage of with his striking skill-set. Masvidal sometimes isn't prepared to do anything defensive except block strikes with his hands and forearms. That's how he always responds to offence for the most part. He's forced to make defensive choices that leave him open to other strikes. That's not too bad, as every defensive movement leaves some kind of opening, and Masvidal's a veteran with plenty of experience to judge incoming strikes. But the second flaw is worse as he's handcuffed whenever he wants to defend. Rather than being able to defend and hurt his opponent (the point of fighting), he has to defend, wait for them to stop attacking, and then take his turn to move forward.
That's why Masvidal struggles against more aggressive fighters (which Green isn't but he'll likely be working more in the more significant sequences). He looked bad against Melendez outside of low kicks (but his broken hand clearly affected the performance), and he was completely unprepared for the wild attacks of Chiesa and Khabilov. He's tough, has amazing recovery, and he pulls through more often than not, but the fact is that he can't be offensive and defensive at the same time, and so he'll probably never be a great fighter unfortunately (even though he has the talent), just a really good/solid one.
