Bob Arum explains why the UFC fighters get paid nothing

As much proof as those who said Renan Barao made only 22k for his last fight. Most of you know dick about what UFC fighters make.

Glad you do. I'm sure everyone gets those mysterious tax free backroom deals where they make a cool 3 billion a fight.

GSP, Gil, and Lesnar combined on their most profitable outings won't even touch Mayweather. And that's WITH sponsors.

Dat Monopoly, tho.

the sad thing is that if you knew anything about business you would know the answer to that question.

A sport (or business) that is emerging rarely has the same profit/loss/expense profile as an established sport (business) and thus trying to equate their pay structures is dumb.

Does MLS pay like UEFA? Should they? Can they?

Don't give me this they are a new sport BS. Bottom line is the UFC has been making hundreds of millions in profits for years now. Has fighter pay augmented at a comparable rate as their profit increase in the last 5 years? No, that's why they don't release their numbers. Don't give me this bs about expense/profit profiles, they make good bank and don't pay their fighters enough. "Emerging" - its been 20 years bro, they are established enough to take risky ventures expanding in every world market that will host them, but not established enough to adjust their payout structure? Give me a break.

He didn't make 22k, but he sure as hell didn't make anywhere close to several millions, which is what champs in boxing make. FACT.

Bisping made 425,000 beating down Mayhem at a TUF finale.

Bisbing is the UFC poster boy in the UK and has been a company man for almost a decade. They pay him that because he is worth the price - he brings in foreign fans. That pay is the exception, not the norm for guys in the lower end of top 10.

Did Arum ever have have 200+ guys to keep busy in his stable? WW in the UFC has like 45 guys, maybe more. They aren't all going to be rich, guys.

Well, I think they should all at least be able to pay their bills without a second job.

I wish I could make 100k plus an feel like I get paid nothing
"An" is not the same word as "And"

You would feel like you got nothing if fighters in a similar profession are making 10X that easily. Usually more.

I like Bob Arum and he has a great point here.

MMA fans just need to accept that boxers make more money. Its not even an argument.
MMA fans scream about undisclosed money that we dont see but thats only a handful of fighters that get that back room money, and even with that back room money they're still getting paid dick compared to boxers.
I also find it funny that mma fans always like to simply discount Mayweather and Pacquiao in these convos like its not fair if we count them. HAHA

Basically MMA fighters are modern day slaves.

I heard Dana makes more than all of them combined that have ever fought since UFC #1 added together

Do you guys know how much money promoters like Arum have robbed fighters of? Don King never had a fighter that didn't take him to court..

I never said he did. But not every champ in boxing makes millions a fight either.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Don King or Bob Arum are shining examples of integrity. The primary reason that Arum cites for a lower % of the revenue going to high level fighters in MMA as opposed to boxing is a lack of promotional competition in MMA. It's a valid reason that adequately explains some of the differences.
