Blue light blocking glasses. Yay or nay?

Herro.

Does anyone get down with them blue light blocking glasses?

They are supposed to help relieve eye strain and help people sleep better but is that really true?

i know i can google it but i figured id ask and see if any sherdoggers who stare at the screen for long hours have any experiences to share.

thank you

I got many different pairs of BLB glasses and yeah, they work. I use them for work and pretty much whenever I am looking at a screen for an extended period of time. I don't use them for watching TV though.

There are some that have the tiniest bit of magnification, and those give me a headache no matter what. So, just keep that in mind when you are shopping them. I got all mine from Amazon, so they're pretty easy to try them out and return if you don't like them.

Don't they have a setting on Android for this ?

Eye comfort shield it's called on mine.

No idea if there's anything like it on desktops etc

I have only found screen protectors that you can stick on your phone and other screens. I use those as well. lol!

I actually use glasses that block red light, but that's because I'm from another planet, and the rays from your sun are harmful to my super powers.

I'd wager they are probably about as effective as those x-ray glasses from the ads in backs of old comic books.
Wait, you're saying those aren't a good investment? Because I just ordered like a dozen of them.

On a serious note, see what you think of this, if you haven't already: https://iristech.co/iris-mini/

I got them from my wife two years ago for Christmas. They work great.

Before I would get headaches and eye twitch from using the PC too much. Now I never so.

Would recommend.

The idea behind these glasses is incredibly simple. All incoming light passes through the tinted lens and puts a red-orangey filter on everything you see. You don't need glasses to do this. There's software for your PC that automatically puts a sepia filter at nightfall (based on your latitude), and you can adjust how strong the sepia is and when it kicks in. As for the room itself, all you need to do is use lightbulbs that tend towards warmer colours of the spectrum in the room you spend most of your evening time in.

They might help if you have heavy exposure to bluish lighting & display screens, but I'd rather fix the problem at the source than try to band-aid it. LED lighting in my home is 2800-3000K except for the kitchen and my computer screens are set slightly warmer than neutral which is way warmer than the factory default.

I think at Walmart I saw some Mandalorian Grogu branded blue light glasses in school supply section.

Yes I own a pair of true darks as well as a cheaper one I got off amazon

i use the true darks before bed and the safety glasses while I’m on my pc at night since the blue light from the PC can screw up your circadian rhythm

helps my body to start releasing melatonin to signal that it’s time to sleep
Do those cyclops glasses make everything look red?

I wear ‘em every night about 2hours before heading to sleep.. my wife hates that I fall asleep immediately but I’ve got her a pair and she just doesn’t lock in

Oh i see. So most of my home lights are warm tint does that mean my only concern is the screens?

she doesnt use them or it dont work on her?

there is some very weak evidence of the efficacy of blue light blocking glasses being beneficial to either eyesight or sleep. most claims are very exaggerated

here is a 2019 publication
Blue-blocking Filters and Digital Eyestrain

"A filter that eliminated 99% of the emitted blue light was no more effective at reducing symptoms of [digital eye strain]DES than an equiluminant ND [neutral density control] filter. There is little evidence at this time to support the use of BB filters to minimize near work–induced asthenopia."

a 2021 publication
Effect of evening blue light blocking glasses on subjective and objective sleep in healthy adults: A randomized control trial

"Blue light blocking glasses did not improve objective measures of sleep time or quality in healthy adults."

So does this mean that blue light doesn’t actually interfere with melatonin? Or does this mean that melatonin does fuck all to actually make us have a better sleep?
