So there is a youtuber that has done a whole playthrough without using guns, no leveling up, no glitches, cheats or exploits...I could post the video if you guys want but obviously it would have a bunch of spoilers...he takes every boss slow and doesn't get greedy...pretty badass...he is being called The King of Bloodborne

I hardly ever use my gun to parry since I almost never lock on to targets. I've spent a ton of time in the Monster Hunter series and went from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to this where this is no lock on feature and landing attacks is all about positioning, knowing the enemy attack patterns for openings, and properly timing the frames of invincibility during the roll to evade the attacks and better your position.

Because I'm so used to that system I just didn't care for trying to stagger enemies out of their attack animations and prefer to position myself just out of reach from their attacks and strike from there. I realize i'm missing some opportunities for some big damage from staggered enemies, I just prefer the freedom of movement without being locked on and the ability to roll when ever I want.

Staggering made some enemies and bosses a cake walk.

I actually try here and there to lock on for the stagger thinking "Man, I got to get good at this stagger thing!!", usually on bosses. End up shooting a few times trying to get the timing down for the stagger for certain attacks, eating a few hits, then eventually revert back to rolling through attacks for positioning. Just not for me. I haven't had a hard time with any of the bosses yet, but I've just cleared the Hemlock Witch and a few chalice dungeons. Might have to get the gun thing down for some of the later bosses.

Not locking on is useful for some things, like being able to roll through enemy attacks, but you lose the ability to dash. Dashing is a new mechanic which really allows you to deal with the increased speed of enemies. I like both rolling and dashing, depending on the situation.

And not to try and sound like the Sher-dad, we should be using more spoiler tags...shouldn't have to feel like you have to avoid the thread just because you have not beat the game...

I'm stuck on the 3rd boss. I've gotten his health down enough for his 3rd phase but dang that one move where he grabs you and youre stuck having very low health left but the poison kills you instead.

First Souls game and level 35

use fire paper and make sure you stagger him as much as you can. until he goes into final phase where he's really aggressive he is really easy to stagger.

My advice would be to try and keep him in the middle of the room or anywhere you have some room to strafe and continually strafe to his right, your left. Just keep dashing left and let him lunge past you.

His main attack in that form is a string of 4 strikes. Let him whiff to a 4 count then go in for an attack or two. Get in and out so you don't absorb poison damage.

I've helped several people now after failing my first 8 or so attempts on him. Using this strategy I can basically fight him all day without being hit now.

I use stagger all the time mainly because I think it's the funnest way to play. You still do plenty of dodging/etc... but there is no feeling of exhilaration then having 3 guys charge you on a narrow path and staggering/visceraling them all one at at time.

A lot of times I don't even kite anymore because I want the thrill have having to stun them all. It definitely sucks, though, when I miss because it's basically a death or 3 blood vials worth of damage.

Hey, I bet none of us sherdog'ers could do it lol...beat the whole game as a level 4(waste of skin class)...here is him vs the Blood-starved Beast...

Lol, I wasn't being facetious. I just wanted to use that Nito pic. That's a pretty ridiculous achievement.

Started another character to use as a skill build. I forgot that you have to know what you're doing at the beginning. I'm used to being able to take a hit to give one and that's gotten me killed more than I would like to admit.

Not to mention that having to riposte enemies is terrifying.

I just started Bloodborne, and I am totally getting my ass handed to me :(

I really think the first part of central yharnam is ducking riugh. All those enemies around the bonfire. And no way to level up is murder for new players. Once you finally get that part down the game's difficulty curve leveld off with crazy difficulty spikes in certain places here and there.

So if th beginning is tough, just grind through it, things will get easier... Until they aren't.

I keep thinking about this.

I definitely agree the very beginning is the hardest part because you haven't upgraded your character or your weapon yet. But on the other hand, the areas tend to get progressively creepier and more stressful. The bosses don't necessarily get harder but the regular enemies and general level design seem more dangerous. I don't think there is another souls game where I dread each area more than the last. They did a fantastic job building suspense in this game.
