PlayStation Bloodborne Megathread, v.4

I already killed the Cleric beast but I been running all around the beginning area and down in the waters killing everything. I leveled my guy up to like level 20 or so.

I'm practicing using my gun to stagger enemies and stab them. I've gotten pretty good at this as far as I know. This game seems more like a hack and slasher than whatever Darks Souls is.

Seems like if I hit them first and keep hitting them, I win.. If I try to fight Dark Souls style, I lose.

So I'm pumping endurance so I can keep swinging without getting tired.

Nice. I never played dark souls but heard BB rewards aggression more.

So those guys walking around were hunters that drank too much blood?

If my guy drinks too much blood, he could turn into one of those beast men?
Kind of, they’re losing their minds because of the transfusions. Yharnam discovered the healing properties of the blood of the old gods but didn’t realize the effects it had.

You can take other consumables and items to essentially turn into one but no, not fully.

You mean Laurence’s blood ministration and founding of the Healing Church?

Bb introduced a rally mechanic such that lost HP can be recovered if ATK during a tight response window. This encouraged less sword and board and more blood for blood but nothing in the vein of hack and slash, to MWB’s comment. Bb combat is nothing if not strategic.

I thought the blood came from the old gods though
Well, the Healing Church was a kind of instrument to contact and harness the power of the Great Ones, so maybe they’re one and the same. Laurence’s possession of this eldritch knowledge is in part what he’d studied at Byrgenwerth, iirc.

Oh great ones, getting my lore confused.

Hard for me too; been a minute. And I’d love a 12th(?) playthrough but demand a remaster at this point. You’re not off either because Old Blood is a thing, so you were likely conflating the two re: Great Ones. Completely reasonable.

Didn’t you do an any% glitchless BL4 run back when? @Dizzy

Are all the Dark Souls, Demons Souls, Bloodborn, Elden Ring... These games are all connected in the same world but different time periods?

Like Yarnham could be the scarlet rot swamp area of Elden Ring 100k years later or something?

Because that's what I'm thinking

It's all the same guy.. Your character. In Dark Souls they call you Hollowed, in Elden Ring they call you Tarnished, in Bloodborn they call you a Hunter but it's all the same thing. You are immortal, you collect souls that are called different things in each game, you travel between worlds.. It's all the same mechanics.

I think your character is the same character in every game reincarnated to different time periods or something.

I think FromSoft might release a game that ties all the games together

I could be totally wrong on all this though.

Now this might be a game breaker for me when I can't make sense of the damage output

My +1 hammer, which is on a strength build hits 21 damage. When I hit a basic guy with a torch or pitchfork, my hammer does 21 damage. Takes me 2 hits to kill the guys wearing brown, takes 3 hits to kill the guys wearing black trench coat.

Attack rating says 115 plus 26

Now my +1 axe hits for 84 damage on basic badguys. It one shots the badguys in brown and 2 shots the guys in the black trench coats..

Attack rating says 107 plus 18

Why is my axe hitting so much harder than my hammer? I'm a hammer fighter or giant sword swinger in all the FromSoft games I played.

Because after collecting enough souls to buy the hammer, pumping my strength up, and wasting my whatevers to upgrade it, this thing hits 21 damage.

I've tested this over and over. I walk up, hit a bad guy with my hammer and get 21

Swap weapons, hit the exact same guy after refreshing the level and the axe does 84

EDIT

Now I just hit a brown suit badguy and did 133 with the axe.. It makes no sense

Enemy defence values factor differently based on ATK angle and DMG type; physical DMG alone without elemental forks into a few categories (axe = slash; hammer = blunt). WPNs have cryptic DMG bonuses and behaviors too, especially when transformed. This is complicated for every Hunter, not just you.

As the greatest game of all-time, trust me when I ask you to press on into the nightmare, and find your worth in the waking world.

We’re here for you 100 with guidance. There are few WPNs objectively better than any other; it’s all about how you build your char (stats) and then the synergy there between char, playstyle, and WPN. For your maiden journey, axe while not the sexiest is unanimously deemed a strong choice.

I was a many-time Blacksmith Hammer main for DS2. Amazing game for hammer bros. Have you played the title yet? @MWB1982

I have Dark Souls 2 but something about it turned me off on the game. I don't remember what it was

As far as Bloodborn, this game is super easy. I'm not even over leveled. The axe is way too over powered. That R2 spin move just wipes out everything. Giants, werewolves, bosses..

I killed Gascone just using that 1 move. It's easy to time. They come running at you, hold R2, once they get to you, you do 2 spins with the axe and either kill everything or send them flying with a pixel of health.

Even if they hit you while you are holding R2, once that spin starts, you heal up.

This Bloodborn game is literally Diablo and I'm running a Barbarian using the spin to win attack with life steal on my weapon.. Instead of top down view, it's backside view with bigger characters. Every now and then you do got to back off and heal. Same thing.

And I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I love Diablo

Bloodstarved Beast 2nd try. I didn't realize he was putting poison on me the first fight plus camera goes crazy and lock on is trash in this game

This boss was hard. It seemed like he got faster the lower you took his health.. I spent like 2 minutes chasing him around while getting poisoned and clobbered trying to land the last hit or two. I couldn't catch the fucker and I thought he was going to kill me. Used like 10 heals trying to land the last hit on him

It's past 2am and that fight got me wide awake and hyped.. I can't even think of a harder boss I fought in other FromSoft games. Maybe Capra Demon? He took 2 tries my first time. I never fought Melania from Elden Ring. I got passed the Fire Giant and haven't played that since.

Spin to win!

Harder fights are in store as your early game still if @ BSB, usually. I say that to fuel your momentum. Glad you’re enjoying it. I never really played axe but I’m surprised to hear how trivial you’re making the game sound with it. Shame they didn’t nerf it, then. Keep crushing.

I’ve seen many say Capra was hard. All you have to do is dog management to avoid stunlock; run up the stairs, ledge yourself, repeat. It’s scary for a moment when first entering and assessing but that’s the meat of it. Some bosses have my number (Malenia was hard AF) but Capra had an obvious way to work the telephone booth of an arena, I always thought. Speaking in general and not aimed at you. My two pence.

I clean out entire groups of badguys with the R2 spin..

You can run around and gather up badguys because they chase you a long ways in this game. Once you get a whole group coming at you, you wait till they are kinda close.. Hold R2 and by the time the badguys are all ready to hit you, you hit them with a double spin move. It's the strongest move with the axe.

If you time it right, even if you get hit a bunch of times, you'll still spin and heal all your health right back. If you don't time it right, they will stop you from spinning.. But once you've done it 5 or 6 times, you get the distance and timing figured out, you can do it almost every time.

I just looked up Bloodborn Axe Spin just to see if anyone else figured this strategy out and they did

All I read was the title.. Spin to win.. Diablo Barbarian style

Ninja Gaiden on NES prepared me for FromSoft games. Pattern recognition and enemy locations. The only difference is, you don't level up in Ninja Gaiden. If you can beat Ninja Gaiden 1,2,3 then you can crush FromSoft games

I just get bored of the games before I ever finish them. Because I don't know the plots

I used to play Dark Souls with those long ass lore vids playing on my phone beside my TV and I still don't know the plot of the game

All I know is I turned Bloodborn into Diablo

I think old-school games for those of us who came up in the 80s and 90s drilled into and taught us a lot of individualistic grit, memorisation, and strategy. Younger gamers can’t relate. We had no community or readily accessible strategy guides, no YT, no ergonomic peripherals. You bled for everything without summons and had to think, endure.

This is why I appreciate more modern titles like Skyrim or Soulsborne where you get to figure things out (How do I even get around this mountain to reach the town… Where was that NPC… How do I beat this guy… What alchemical combinations make what tonics…) and little is spoonfed via map, HUD, or tooltip.
