The second he tampers with the device, it sends an emergency alert to the police on top of people watching him in person.This is standard for violent offenders. I don’t know what he will do but we’ve had plenty of them cut their ankle monitor off and disappear. Then we send fugitive task force out to take them back in what could be a violent encounter while doing surveillance or serving a search warrant. You’re right about it not being like he was just released but it isn’t a deterrent by any means for someone who wants to do harm.
The reason he got the bail was so that people could be with him and take care of his mental health needs outside of a justice system that is purely punishment based. That's going to be a firestorm for those people if he takes off. It will make local law enforcement and the judge look like fools in national media.
I don't know what you're calling standard, but this case is certainly not standard by any means, nor do I believe it would be standard for people to break their devices and flee while on bail.
