How the US insurance lobby created a false fear campaign.
Basically knowing that having a proper single payer health care platform absent of insurance companies is the most economical and compassionate option. The insurance companies formed lobby groups and did their best to plant seeds of doubt within the public.

The sad part is I see many of these hackneyed debunked talking points and wild fantastic false scenarios used as examples of why we can't have UHC.

Here's some transcripts from the podcast that reached out to one of the main founders of this campaign. Much like big oil and big tobacco, they used the tactic of sowing doubt. Not having to be factually correct, and instead flooding the public with misinformation.

This is unfortunately the debate that we're going to have with most of these issues. Corporate interests are going to paint any legislative action as socialism and prop up the idea that the free market is the most efficient way to meet society's needs.

Which is true for some things but not for everything. And insurance, by its very nature, is not that thing. The entire point of insurance is to spread the cost and the risk across the pool of insureds - if it was government run, it would be the very socialism that people complain about.

But because the group that is pooling the money and spreading out the risk is also pursuing a profit motive, some people fail to look at the mechanics of what is being employed. If we're going to pool the money and spread the risk, we might as well have it done by the group that isn't looking to also profit from it.

Obviously, like the rest of the first world.
The craziest thing is that fiscal conservatives should support it too. It is so much more efficient than the current system.

The only people who should be supporting the status quo are insurance company shills.

As a person who’s survived cancer and had two children (or rather my wife did, I was just there for the party) under the Canadian healthcare system, I can tell you: everything I’ve ever heard claimed about our system as a reason not to go single payer is either very inaccurate or a straight up lie.

Gotta how ppl like to talk about thing they know nothing about.

canadian health care is pretty bad.

yeah, it’s free and everybody is covered, but service itself is not thst good.

In some provinces there’s a 2 or 3 year waiting period to get a doctor for a yearly check ups and doctors themselves have quotas and have to see x amount of patients per day, which mean they try to get rid of you as quickly as possible.

It’s a good system for poor ppl without a job and retirees who can spend all day at the hospital. For anybody else you’re better off with your own private insurance

I mean, you guys manage to pay twice the OECD average for healthcare with worse outcomes, while still leaving around 30 million people uninsured. That should have the alarm bells ringing.

Yeah bro everybody knows paying $500 a month with a 5k deductible before your insurance even kicks in and still having to wait in line is a much better deal!!!

A lot of bullshit there
Such as?

I have to drive an hour and a half for a Drs appointment because I have been unable to get a family doctor in the area I moved to 3 and a half years ago.

You have no idea what you're talking about. None of this is true.
