Black Holes and Interstellar Travel

I'm ok with the trippy theories, I haven't reviewed them,

By "trippy" I only meant that the explanation and scientific language will make some people's heads spin. I don't remember which it is but one of the two articles literally said that the explanation will seem trippy to some people who can't wrap their heads around some of the jargon or truly appreciate the amount knowledge and study that go into this kind of topic.

but I can't accept the last one. Just take a look at the latest observations of the center of the Milky Way.We may not have all the answers when it comes to black holes, but we know quite a lot and you will have to work very hard to convince me otherwise.

Actually, I am of the understanding that black holes DO, in fact, exist and are a reality. I only posted the link to that article denying their existence to give everyone here more material to talk about if they so wish.

It is very well documented that the japanese used balloons to attack the USA during WW2.

I've never looked into the 1942 Los Angeles incident beyond the links I posted. But, do you know if it's been confirmed and documented that it was a Japanese balloon that particular night?

Yeah, cool beans, and I intend to review the other links in more detail, but my main concern was the post by WTF saying, like lots of people who don't understand the scientific method, that it's just a theory, a mathematical construct. I get bent out of shape over that type of thing because it's mostly the fault of the American education system.

Edit:
Please note, a lot of posts in here are quite vaguely suggesting that black holes are made up things. In the sense that it is just a name for a very long explanation of a known phenomenon you could say that's sort of true if you also agree that you as a person are a made up thing because your name was made up by your parents. You can't fully describe a person but you can name a large number of qualities about that person that will distinguish them from non-humans and then you will also be able to make predictions about qualities of that person based on the study of related subjects. If any of your predictions is wrong then you will go back to your previous work, determine why, and improve the theory but you will not need to throw out the whole theory because it has been so successful up to that point. If it is not the correct theory, it must be very close.

Edit 2: Newtonian Physics was quickly found to be incomplete and many testable predictions were found to contradict the theory. On the other hand, Einstein managed to work out all of those inconsistencies and relativity theory has since successfully answered to a large number of predictions. It is much closer to the actual explanation of how the universe works than Newton's. It may be said to be lacking in some ways but if a resolution to these is found it will not completely re-write Relativity. It will still have been right about everything it's already been proved right about in the past.

You missed part of the explanation. Once you cross the event horizon, all paths will lead in. Until you are over the event horizon, you can still (theoretically) escape. You don't notice any change in the passage of time but in the outside universe, things are different if you observe them or if anyone observes you. Time moves more slowly for moving things and for things in a strong gravitational field. It's not a construct anymore than space is. Although there may be an underlying reality to it, we don't perceive that.

Horseshit.

Who knows "quite a lot"? You?

You know what you're told. Taking theories and hollywood movies as fact is pretty weak.

All these theories change all the time. Who can or will test them?

The genius physicists that get funded for supposedly figuring out that there's 11 dimensions of the world that are gonna end and has already ended 15 times while you've been reading this and everything that you ever think of happening can and has already happened while blackholes suck in and blow out new universes, but not the porn kind of blackholes.

Your world/universe view is weak. There is no so-called resolution.

The first problem is thinking it's even close to figured out. The rest is thinking that we can figure it out. You can read and copy and paste Internet articles all you want. The people's work you're quoting will tell you they're not sure but somehow you are.

Your responses prove my point. You have no idea what you or I am talking about.

And your response proves mine. Whose theory is right? Nobody's?

So we can agree that it's not figured out or proven by any current theories. You're still quoting unproven science and claiming it as fact.

They are the best theories we have and probably mostly sound. But nothing is figured out. There is no 100% proof of black holes.

There probably are black holes, or something similar to what we describe as such, but if you think we are close to knowing what they are or how they work, you are kidding yourself.

The knowledge we have has been gathered over thousands of years.

What are these things that were thought impossible?
Flight? Leonardo Da Vinci was working on it 500 years ago.
Rockets? The Chinese were using them over 700 years ago.
Computers? The Sumerians were using a type of computer 4000 years ago and automated weaving machines used the technology almost 200 years ago.
Cell phones? They're just another form of radio which has been around for over 100 years.
Atomic power is the only relatively new technology and is capable of unleashing the most power as it is the type of power that the stars produce. We understand how atoms combine to produce elements and we have made several.

What many refer to as modern technology is a combination of thousands of years of learning to understand nature and how to make more efficient use of it to build smaller versions of powerplants, batteries and electrical circuits.

To travel faster takes more power. Light exists as wave energy and it is unlikely that matter can attain that speed without an infinite amount of energy.

We want to be able to travel to distant stars but the energy required is so great that we have to resort to science fiction to invent ways to produce it.

Others invented ways to warp space instead as if that would require less energy.

I lived through the beginning of the space programs and after the landing on the moon, it was fully expected that men would be on Mars by 1980. The Viking missions showed that there were many problems to solve before a manned mission could be successful.

We have to be able to sustain a fully closed environmental system and protect from the cosmic rays because there isn't a strong magnetic field like the Earth has.

Not sure you actually read my post. All your not relevant examples were pretty recent. In other fields we seem to advance pretty quickly. As long as money is thrown at something we seem to overcome so-called impossible situations.

There's just not enough money being thrown at space exploration for some reason.

I claimed no such thing. Read my posts and try again or pfo.

Anyone else check out PBS Space Time channel on YT?

Damn, it's awesome. About 50% is over my head cuz I've never even taken high school physics but it's still super interesting. Quick and simple enough for a layperson, but deep enough to be substantive.

At least the first host was a astrophysics PhD
