If you see a red on anyone else besides a gracie...then they are full of shit so feel free to school them.
Only 9th and 10th Degrees are gracies (10th being helio) So technically if you feel like doing BJJ for another 75 years you might get 8th degree, but I highly doubt you would get 9th since those belts are only for the graices. Then again if you are good friends with them for 68 years and you've been training with them since you've had your white belt if they really really like you they might make an exception and if you earned it give you 9th dan but....i highly doubt that.
There are other 9th degrees that arent gracies.

It seems it wasn't that long ago that someone posted this info, but I'll post the link to the site about "official" BJJ belt ranks including Black belt degrees.

http://www.ibjjf.org/graduation.htm

Anyway, I know that not everyone is a member of the "official" orginization, but these are pretty good general guidelines.

A mildly funny story. My first BJJ class ever, I was just eager and so I bought a gi right then and there from the school. Nice blue Atama gi right out of the plastic wrap. Only there was no belt. The instructor scrounged around the back and found a (really long; the owner must have been a huge guy) red belt. So for that class all the other students gave me mock "ooohs" and "aaahs" just before they beat the snot out of me. You can bet first thing tomorrow morning I went to the local martial arts shop for a white belt.
